A passion for solutions with light – that's the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF! Based in Jena, a city with a long tradition in optics, we conduct application-oriented research in the field of photonics. We develop innovative light-based technologies and create state-of-the-art optical components and systems along the entire process chain - from design and simulation to manufacturing, integration, and application of customer-specific solutions and prototypes. Join our team and shape the future together with us! The “Imaging and Sensing” department is looking for a student assistant, who will be enhancing existing, prototypically implemented algorithms for 3D calculation. Additionally, an experimental validation system must be assembled and characterized. In the case of challenging environmental conditions, the method of multi-scale parallel single-pixel imaging has the potential to enable breakthrough advances. The “image processing and AI” group contributes to this goal by bringing this novel method into 3d sensors. After successful introduction, there is the possibility of working on the topic as part of a thesis (bachelor's or master's thesis).
