The Azure Data Engineer will serve as a technical engineer within Four Seasons Technology Innovation and Data (TID) Department, driving the design, build, and optimization of data solutions across our Microsoft Azure Data Platform, including Databricks. This role is critical in enabling the organization to unlock actionable insights and deliver business value through modern, cloud-native technologies.

Reporting to the Manager, Data Engineering, this role focused on building, migrating, and optimizing data pipelines, models, and integrations within Four Seasons’ Azure Databricks Lakehouse environment. The data engineer ensures these solutions are reliable, performant, and aligned with enterprise architecture, governance, and analytics readiness standards.

As a core member of the Data Engineering capability within the TID Delivery team, the engineer will collaborate closely with business stakeholders to define requirements, use cases, and desired outcomes. The engineer will be responsible for building, configuring, securing, migrating, optimizing, and refactoring data platform solutions across Azure, Databricks, and Informatica Cloud ecosystems.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization. They should be adept at translating business knowledge into scalable and effective technical solutions, with a focus on service excellence and continuous improvement.

This position is based in Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Toronto Corporate Office, reporting to the Senior Director, Hotel Systems. This role involves interactions with primarily internal stakeholders at various levels.

What You’ll Be Doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable batch and streaming data solutions using Azure, Databricks, Delta Lake, and Informatica, ensuring reliability, performance, and best practices.

  • Develop and optimize production-grade PySpark, Python, and SQL code.

  • Develop resilient data integration pipelines using Informatica Cloud, seamlessly aligned with the governance framework (IDMC: Data Quality, CDGC, and Reference 360). 

  • Support optimizing the Azure platform resources (Databricks clusters, storage accounts, networking, and security configurations) to ensure cost efficiency, performance, and compliance.

  • Partner with commercial, personalization and other teams to understand requirements and build curated datasets and integrations.

  • Work with Data Architect and DE lead to model and maintain dimensional data structures for analytics and reporting.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to gather requirements, manage agile workflows in Jira and monday.com, and document solutions in Confluence.

  • Adhere to architectural frameworks and suggest improvements for platform scalability, performance, and operational.

Data Engineering & BI Engineering

  • Design, Develop, and maintain robust batch and streaming data pipelines across Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Informatica, and SQL environments, ensuring scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.

  • Support development of data pipelines for guest personalization and commercial analytics; assist in creating datasets for KPI monitoring and collaborate with commercial stakeholders to understand and fulfill data needs.

  • Utilize CI/CD workflows, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automated testing frameworks (unit, integration, and data validation) with integrated monitoring and observability to ensure compliance with defined SLAs and SLOs.

  • Experience managing Azure platform resources and network configurations (e.g., Databricks clusters, storage accounts, VNETs, private endpoints) to ensure performance, security, and cost optimization.

  • Apply governance standards by embedding metadata, cataloging, and lineage practices in collaboration with the Data Strategy & Governance team.

  • Monitor and tune pipeline performance and Azure cost utilization; identify opportunities for optimization across compute, storage, and workload scheduling.

  • Support the creation of certified datasets and semantic models to enable accurate and trusted Power BI self-service analytics for business stakeholders.

  • Collaborate closely with Data Science and Analytics teams to deliver curated, model-ready data assets that comply with privacy and governance policies.

  • Follow established data architecture and engineering standards to build and maintain data solutions across Azure, Databricks, and Informatica.

  • Assist in designing data models and integration patterns that support analytics and forecasting while ensuring compliance with governance and quality practices.

  • Embed metadata, lineage, and data quality checks into workflows using tools like Informatica IDQ and Unity Catalog.

  • Collaborate with architecture and governance teams to align solutions with enterprise strategy, security, and cloud standards.

  • Contribute to documentation and design reviews to ensure performance, maintainability, and adherence to best practices.

Operational and Delivery Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture, security, and governance standards for all data initiatives.

  • Collaborate among data engineers, architects, analysts, and business teams to align with business strategy and objectives.

  • Perform pre- and post-implementation validation to confirm alignment with requirements, data standards, and performance benchmarks.

  • Work with internal teams and external partners to ensure high-quality delivery and adherence to contractual obligations.

  • Communicate project status, risks, and dependencies clearly to stakeholders, escalating issues when needed.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement through feedback loops, retrospectives, and process optimization.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Data Engineering; with experience in Azure platform using Databricks.

  • University or higher degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Technology and/or Data Management or Business Administration with a technical or IT interest.
