JOB SUMMARY 

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing the verification of merchandise and the stocking of textbooks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

1. Conduct audits and inspections across divisions.

2. Investigate and communicate with appropriate departments on shipment/order issues.

3. Provide outstanding guest service and demonstrate thorough knowledge of Beach Shops products and services.

4. Coordinate department activities to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with policies.

5. Research and summarize findings for specials projects.

6. Assist with planning and implementation of process enhancements.

7. Write routine reports, prepare files for system uploads, and ensure accuracy of all paperwork.

8. Help plan, set up, and tear down for special events; represent the store at campus functions and make on-campus deliveries.

9. Oversee the stocking and layout of textbooks/course materials, including signage, shelf tags, and pallet stacking.

10. Maintain cleanliness and organization of operational areas.

11. Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position supervises and renders guidance to all staff within their department, under their immediate direction. Acts as a coach and mentor to all employees in their division. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations. Carries out the disciplinary process of employees in accordance with company policy. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and procedures. 

1. Lead warehouse staff in receiving, logging, verifying, pricing, stocking, and storing merchandise efficiently and accurately.

2. Assist with training and guiding staff, support staff planning for peak work periods.

Work Schedule 

Work shifts will be assigned during regular operating hours, which are generally Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Shifts may vary to include mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, and occasional weekends. These hours may be extended during the start of academic semesters and other peak periods. Warehouse operations run year-round, with increased activity at the beginning of academic semesters. Some campus closure dates, holidays and special events are required. The employee must provide a minimum of 20 hours of availability.

Physical Demands 

The employee will frequently need to move boxes, unpack inventory and stock shelves with merchandise. The employee must frequently be able to lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds. Extended periods of standing and walking are expected, and the role may occasionally require sitting, climbing, balancing, bending at the waist, pushing or pulling, reaching above shoulder level, stooping, and kneeling. Movement between different operating locations on campus may also be necessary. Some use of ladders to ascend/descend is occasionally required.

Work Environment 

The employee is typically in a climate-controlled indoor environment within the retail location and frequently has movement throughout the warehouse and outdoors, with exposure to weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to noisy. Occasionally the work environment will have high customer traffic at the beginning of each new semester, during sales, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Education and/or experience 

A High School Diploma or GED is required for this position, with an Associate degree or higher strongly preferred. Some prior experience in a bookstore or retail warehouse environment is required. The employee should demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and possess a basic working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Knowledge and Abilities 

The employee must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions, particularly those related to safety procedures, and communicate effectively in English in both written and oral forms. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, along with a customer service-oriented mindset. The role demands the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population of staff, students, and co-workers while demonstrating cooperative behavior. Additionally, good leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are essential. The ability to understand and comply with University and Beach Shops policies and procedures is required.

BACKGROUND CHECK A background check (including criminal records) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the Beach Shops at the CSU. The Beach Shops will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
