Job OverviewThe Repairman Refrigeration will perform a variety of skilled tasks associated with the installation, modification, repair and maintenance of commercial and institutional type refrigeration equipment including field house washer and dryer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Technical
- Perform a variety of skilled duties in the installation, modification, repair and maintenance of refrigeration equipment such as reach-in and walk-in freezers and refrigerators, household freezers and refrigerators, milk coolers, water coolers, and ice making machines
- Trouble-shoot, test, locate and diagnose problems and defects in refrigeration equipment; repair, adjust and/or replace contractors, relays, thermostats, holding coils, temperature and pressure controls, compressors, condensers, motors, fans, defrosters, heaters, and lighting; locates and repairs refrigerant leaks
- Remove and relocate refrigeration equipment; dismantle structural and functional components as necessary and assemble at new location
- Clean condensing units
- Operate hand and power tools including volt, ohm and amperage meters, temperature and pressure gauges, soldering irons, and burning and welding equipment
- Maintain and repair all filed house commercial washer and dryers throughout the District
Safety and Inspection- Inspect and check equipment for proper operation; make adjustments as necessary; perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance tasks
- Ensure that all safety precautions, regulations and equipment are utilized properly, and that work complies with national, state and local codes and regulations
Administrative- Review work orders, diagrams, schematics, and manufacturers manuals; procure parts and supplies
- Plan and layout work projects and to estimate time and materials needed
- Keep records and prepares reports of work accomplished and materials used
Supervisory Responsibilities- May supervise the work of one or more employees
- Ability to assign, observe, monitor, train, and lead subordinate trade helpers

- Valid Texas Drivers License
- Air Conditioning/Refrigeration State License or Universal Refrigeration Recovery Certificate
- Minimum of 3 years of refrigeration experience
- Progressive working experience and knowledge in the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of a wide variety of commercial and institutional refrigeration equipment
- Considerable knowledge of refrigerant gases and methods of purging, evacuating, and charging units
- Strong knowledge of building, electrical and fire codes, and local, state and federal regulations relating to commercial and institutional refrigeration installation and repair and hazard and safety precautions of the trade
- Ability to work with and around 115 volt single phase and 480 volt three phase electrical systems
- Ability to read, write and speak English as well as follow oral and written instructions to interpret plans, diagrams and/or other manufacturer manuals
- Ability to perform routine record keeping tasks and arithmetical computations
- Strong ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve and work independently

Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
Additional Information- Work requires sufficient strength, agility, dexterity, and hand-eye-foot coordination to perform all essential tasks, including operating and using all tools and equipment of the trade, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, reaching in front of body and overhead while holding heavy objects, walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time, climbing and working from ladders. Work is performed primarily inside school district building and facilities, and often requires working unusual hours or evening shifts and may be designated for 24 hour on-call. Employee is exposed to extreme temperatures, flammable or toxic chemical solvents, hazardous and explosive gases and oils, damp and wet conditions. Employee is also exposed to potential electrical shock and other physical hazards when working on refrigeration equipment, operating tools and equipment, and working in high places or cramped spaces. Employee is required to wear and use safety clothing and equipment and to comply with safety policies and procedures.
