Job Overview
The Plumber will perform a variety of skilled, journeyman level, plumbing tasks in the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems in school district buildings and facilities.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operational

  • Perform skilled plumbing work at the journeyman level; install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, urinals, showers, drinking fountains, icemakers, and water heaters
  • Install and test back flow preventors and maintain and repair sprinkler systems
  • Cut, ream, thread, solder, glue and connect metal, copper and plastic pipes and fittings
  • Replace defective fixtures, regulators, controls, traps, valves, faucets, washers and gaskets
  • Plan and layout work projects using arithmetical computation
Safety and Administrative
  • Review work orders and building plans; procure materials and supplies
  • Ensure that all safety precautions, regulations, and equipment are utilized properly and that work complies with national, state and local building codes
  • Participate in work site set-up and clean-up activities to ensure a safe and clean environment
  • Keep records and prepare reports of work accomplished and materials used
        Supervisory Responsibilities
        • May supervise one or more employees and provide guidance and training

        • High School diploma or GED preferred
        • Valid Texas Drivers License
        • Journeyman or Tradesman License
        • Back-Hoe Operator License preferred and/or ability to obtain upon hire
        • Back-Flow Diverter Certification preferred and/or ability to obtain upon hire
        • Minimum of 4 years of experience working under a Master Plumber
        • Strong knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, practices and tools used in the commercial and/or industrial plumbing trade
        • Good knowledge of national, state and local plumbing and gas codes as well as hazards and safety precautions of the trade
        • Ability to read, write and speak English
        • Ability to perform work of the trade at the journeyman level and to assign, observe, monitor, train and lead subordinate employees
        • Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, schematics and manufacturer's manuals
        • Ability to plan and layout work projects and to estimate time/materials needed
        • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain good interpersonal relationships

        The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

        Additional Information
        • Work requires sufficient strength, agility, dexterity, and hand-eye-foot coordination to perform all essential tasks, including operating and using all tools and equipment, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, walking, reaching in front of body and overhead while holding heavy objects, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time, climbing and working from ladders, scaffolds, and lifts up to 40 feet high. Work is performed both inside and outside school district building and facilities, and often requires working unusual hours or evening shifts. May be designated to 24 hour on-call. Employee is exposed to a wide range of climatic conditions, dust, flammable or toxic chemicals, explosive gases, scalding liquids, and loud noise levels. Employee is also exposed to physical hazards when operating tools and equipment and working in high places or cramped spaces. Employee is required to wear and use safety clothing and equipment and to comply with safety policies and procedures.
