Job Description

Responsible for leading the day-to-day maintenance of the Arizona SR 202 project.  The project consists of 22 miles of freeway (3 General Purpose & 1 HOV in each direction), 41 bridges, 15 interchanges, and landscaping, sound wall, signage, attenuators and drainage assets.

 

Verifies work, interprets the contract, and gives direction on schedules and subcontractor work.  This position works in collaboration with the Maintenance Manager to coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of a services plan consistent with the identified needs of the client and the contract.

 

Responsibilities:

An individual must be able to meet and maintain successful performance of each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are the representative knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

  • Ensures completion of condition assessment of pavements, signs, guardrails, bridges, vegetation, and other contract requirements. 
  • Determines best approach (self-performance or subcontract) for bringing assets into contract compliance considering cost, timeliness, and efficiency. Assist in sourcing and qualifies new subcontractors.
  • Serves as technical advisor to work crews. 
  • Coordinates with Maintenance Manager to schedule work to be performed. 
  • Inspects in-process and completed work to ensure compliance with contract requirements. 
  • Acts as a communication link between the Maintenance Manager and operations personnel.
  • Obtains, inspects, and controls fleet (maintenance, fuel cards, etc.).  Manage, monitor, and control highway project assets and materials.
  • Responsible for proper work reporting, timesheets, budgeting, and other systems.  Prepares reports and correspondence as necessary.  Ensures data in the Maintenance Management Information System (AMX) is accurate and up to date.
  • Seeks to continually improve workplace safety by attending and conducting workplace inspections, toolbox talks, hazard assessments etc.
  • Promotes a positive safety culture in the workplace through personal example and by requiring full compliance of all safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Job Requirements

  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and four (4) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to eight (8) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner

Other Job Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher degree in engineering, construction management or related degree can be substituted for equivalent work experience and technical expertise in asset management, road maintenance, or in a related field
  • 5 years maintaining complex highway infrastructure projects, and/or, 5 years of management of reconstruction associated with major urban freeways.
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License with good driving record
  • OSHA 30 Certificate (or must obtain within 6 months)
  • AATSA Work Zone Supervisor (or must obtain within 6 months)
  • Working Knowledge of AZ811 system and Blue Staking in the field (or must obtain within 6 months)
  • Knowledge of roadway, structure, and bridge construction methods, materials, standards and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment, and EEO/DBE guidelines and regulations.
  • Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs and field inspection equipment.
  • Ability to provide technical supervision and leadership to other maintenance staff.
  • Read and interpret roadway, bridge, and structure plans and contract specifications.
  • Maintain detailed records.
  • Communicate effectively with agency, contractor personnel and the general public.
