Position Overview
Respond to electrical and equipment breakdowns as required; troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair plant electrical systems and controls; install and modify electrical equipment, wiring, and PLC programs; and support safe, reliable plant operations.
This position is on 2nd shift.
Skills Required
- Strong working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including power distribution, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, robotics, and automated equipment.
- Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical schematics, ladder logic, and control drawings.
- Ability to diagnose electrical failures, identify root causes, and perform repairs using both hardware and software solutions.
- Proficient in the use of Allen-Bradley PLC software and Windows-based applications, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to plan and perform new or modified electrical installations to minimize material waste, allow for future maintenance access, and ensure compliance with specifications and applicable electrical codes.
- Ability to measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit and pull wire through conduit.
- Ability to install, troubleshoot, and maintain control and distribution devices, including switches, relays, motor starters, VFDs, panels, and lighting systems.
- Ability to maintain and support electrical infrastructure and facility electrical systems.
- Proficient in the use of electrical testing equipment, including ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters, and oscilloscopes.
- Ability to observe operating equipment to detect electrical hazards, performance issues, and required adjustments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on electrical troubleshooting.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, schematics, and manuals; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with managers, supervisors, and coworkers.
- Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-pressure manufacturing environment.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and remain flexible.
- Must furnish and maintain own toolbox.
- All other duties as assigned.
Basic Education and Experience
Education:
- Education or equivalent experience required:
- Two (2) years of formal electrical or technical training plus two (2) years of practical experience, or
- Four (4) years of industrial electrical experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Automotive manufacturing experience preferred.
- Proven attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to produce high-quality work within tight timeframes.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to safely climb ladders up to 20 feet and access elevated equipment.
- Ability to lift 30–100 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to work in awkward positions, including overhead work and pulling wire overhead.
- Ability to safely operate cranes, hoists, forklifts, and man-lifts.
- Ability to work in variable indoor and outdoor temperatures ranging from sub-zero to 130°F.
- Ability to stand for up to 90% of the shift with frequent walking.
Health, Safety, and Physical Demands
- Ability to see details at close range.
- Ability to work in non-climate-controlled manufacturing environments and office settings.
- Upper body mobility required, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Lift using one or two hands up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional use of force ranging from 1 to 30 pounds throughout the shift.
- Basic electrical safety training required for safety awareness.
