Job Description

The Payments Network Portfolio Engineering Leader is a senior-level role, responsible for driving the strategic vision, design, development, and delivery of payment products and platforms. This individual will oversee a team of talented engineers, collaborating closely with product, services, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and innovative payment solutions. The ideal candidate is passionate about fintech, has deep technical expertise, and demonstrates outstanding leadership in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor engineering teams focused on payments product development, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Partner with product management to define and execute the roadmap for payment solutions, ensuring alignment with business goals and customer needs.
  • Design and architect robust, secure, and scalable solutions, including integrations with financial institutions, card networks, and alternative payment methods.
  • Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., PCI DSS, PSD2, AML/KYC) and proactively address security and risk management.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, automation, and quality assurance to enhance product reliability and team productivity.
  • Stay abreast of emerging payment technologies, industry trends, and competitive offerings to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., risk, compliance, support, infrastructure) to deliver seamless payment experiences.
  • Manage vendor relationships and third-party payment service providers as needed.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and results to executive leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in leadership roles managing engineering teams.
  • Proven track record designing and delivering payment products or platforms, at global scale (e.g., card processing, ACH, real-time payments, digital wallets).
  • Deep understanding of payment industry protocols, security requirements, and compliance standards.
  • Hands-on experience with modern software development practices, cloud platforms, APIs, and microservices architectures.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and lead teams through ambiguity and change.
  • Experience working with remote and distributed teams is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with global payments ecosystems, cross-border payments, and technologies like AI, blockchain and open banking APIs.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

FIS is committed to providing its employees with an exciting career opportunity and competitive compensation. The pay range for this full-time position is $195,610.00 - $328,630.00 and reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position based on the posted role, level, and location. Within the range, actual individual starting pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Any changes in work location will also impact actual individual starting pay. Please consult with your recruiter about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
