Position Overview:

Reporting to the Environment, Health and Safety Supervisor, the Environment, Health and Safety Advisor II’s primary responsibility is to provide professional and timely support to assist in the implementation of Finning’s Environment, Health, and Safety Management System within the operations. The EH&S Advisor II will work in close partnership with the Supervisor and Operational teams to support in the implementation and continuous improvement of the EHS Management System.

Note: This position is full time, temporary with a term of approximately 20 months. The anticipated hourly wage rate will be between $45 and $48 per hour.

Job Description:

Communication

  • Coach on trending control health.
  • Coach required compliance material, including new requirements, updates, etc.
  • Develop and share important/relevant topics for safety/toolbox meetings.
  • Review and advise on important topics, identified gaps, and feedback.
  • Support in maintaining accurate and up-to-date information on safety boards.

Collaboration

  • Coach and advise on requirements for training, inspections, meetings, communications and other activities.
  • Support in establishing and maintaining Joint Health & Safety Committees.
  • Assist with EH&S-related information and attend branch monthly leadership meetings.
  • Coach, advise and collaboratively solve OHS concerns & roadblocks.
  • Share investigation outcomes, successes and innovations.

Assurance

  • Coach engagement and quality completion of all assurance activity requirements, such as leadership walkthroughs, hazard submissions, corrective and preventative actions, inspections, etc.
  • Follow up on compliance and value.
  • Review actions and provide coaching/support as needed.
  • Share learnings, successes, and positive acts.
  • Participate and coach in internal/external audit requirements, including documentation, interview, and observation schedules.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Support drills and exercises.
  • Communicate updates, outcomes and drill/exercise status.
  • Partner with operations on any findings from the after-action report.
  • Assess regulatory requirements.

Incident Management and Injury Reduction

  • Coach on the end-to-end incident management process.
  • Facilitate causal analysis and regulator correspondence.
  • Create serious event flashes and alerts.
  • Analyze and record incidents, trends and metrics utilizing reporting and dashboard analytic tools.
  • Monitor open/closed incident investigations and follow up as needed to obtain quality information and timely closure.
  • Maintain branch visual standards and management (consistent approach across region, upkeep, transition between campaign changes)

Orientation and Training

  • Coach and advise on required EH&S training for operations.
  • Monitor consistency and quality.
  • Review compliance and requirements.
  • Report on challenges, compliance, and effectiveness.

Other

  • Travel (+/- 50%) to support branches, remote sites and field locations.
  • Coach operations on the use of the EH&S Tool Kit, Management System and tools.
  • Develop performance reports using dashboard analytic tools.
  • Provide feedback on EH&S controlled management system documents (new development, updates, etc.).
  • Assist in the development of programs, training materials, etc.
  • Support in creating EH&S related purchase orders as needed.

Education & Experience:

  • 5-10 years environment, health and safety experience
  • Formal post-secondary education in occupational health and safety or related field (degree, diploma, certificate) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting EH&S management system elements and improvements
  • Excellent computer skills: Microsoft – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication, professionalism, and interpersonal skills
  • Related industry safety experience
