FZ is looking for a Controller based in our Grand Rapids, MI office. This role is a key leadership role across all of FZ leading the Finance & Accounting team across all geographic locations. Our Controller assumes ownership and accountability for all accounting, reporting, financial controls, cash planning, and regulatory compliance. This includes mastering all construction-specific accounting (% complete and WIP reporting).  Our Controller will partner with our CFO and support geographic leaders to maximize profitability and productivity across FZ. As Controller, you can have a big impact on the company overall and be individually challenged as FZ continues its growth trajectory.

 

What We’re Looking for:

 

  • Technical Expert. With 10+ years of finance/accounting experience, ideally in the construction industry, you have the hands-on experience to not only lead yourself and your team, but also our organization to success. Your experience will be well versed in GAAP accounting, financial operations, internal controls, analyzing and reporting complex data simply, and help teach others at FZ financial acumen.
  • The Example of Efficiency & Accuracy. You can see the big picture and drive continuous improvement in processes and systems, balanced with an ability to dive deep into the details to ensure accuracy and integrity across all our financial and accounting operations. Your standards set the bar high, knowing that details matter when keeping score. Beyond keeping score, you’ll use WIP data and financial modeling to assist in forecasting our next phase of growth.
  • Compliance Champion. As the guardian of our growth, you ensure our financial integrity remains rock-solid so our field teams can focus on what they do best. Issuing timely and complete reports is something you never miss, checking each and every box. Whether it’s routine WIP reports, KPIs dashboards, or requested information, you are reliable and everyone knows they can count on you and your team. You navigate the complexity of robust internal controls and consolidated reporting requirements with ease.
  • A Trusted Partner.  Your communication skills and emotional intelligence are strong, helping you work well across all levels of the organization and lead your team. In addition to building strong internal relationships, you also work intentionally to build strong external relationships, including related operating companies and our parent company. You navigate topics and situations with professionalism, tact, and confidentiality. In partnership with our CFO, your great work directly impacts daily and long-term decisions.

 

 Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting - required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience (multi-state) – required; construction & public accounting specific experience along with CMA or CPA - strongly preferred.
  • Technical skills – not only are you an Excel guru, but you also have extensive knowledge of large scale EPR and Data Visualization/BI systems - required (Viewpoint Spectrum or MS Power BI a big plus). You embrace modern technology to get the most out of your time and effort.
  • Communication – Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills for conversations that range from one-on-one to group presentations.
  • Time Management – You are self-motivated with a sense of urgency, and able to access priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Safety Awareness – Ability to wear required PPE when visiting field locations (minimum one visit per month).
