The Metallurgical Technician performs critical testing and analysis to ensure the integrity, performance, and compliance of metal products with industry standards. This role supports quality assurance and continuous improvement in metallurgical processes. Work is primarily performed in a laboratory setting with occasional exposure to industrial environments. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols is required. Daily work includes standing for extended periods and handling chemicals or metal samples.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare metallurgical samples for analysis using grinding, polishing, mounting, and cutting techniques.
  • Perform or support various metallurgical testing techniques to standard method specifications.
  • Maintain laboratory tools, equipment, and instrumentation to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Document and report test results accurately in compliance with ISO standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers and quality teams to resolve metallurgical issues.
  • Assist in resolution of non-conforming work and corrective actions.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations during sample preparation and testing.
  • Knowledge: Knowledgeable of sample preparation for laboratory testing techniques.
  • Skilled in grinding, polishing, mounting and cutting of metal materials.
  • Knowledgeable of physical, chemical, mechanical, dimensional, surface inspection, structural and corrosion testing of manufactured metal products.
  • Skilled in chemical and physical testing of metallurgical components.
  • Ability to interpret metallurgical data and provide actionable insights.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for metallurgical testing instrumentation and equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of failure modes related to metallurgical components used in industrial settings.
  • Knowledgeable of laboratory quality management systems.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; Associates degree in Metallurgical Technology or related field preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years in an industrial facility or (TIC) laboratory preferred.
  • Previous experience in an ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 organization.
  • Previous experience using ASTM or other standard laboratory methods.
  • Experienced in the operation of metallurgical sample preparation tools and equipment.

Pay Range:

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
