Program and Division Description

Felton Institute’s Early Psychosis award winning program (re)MIND® (formerly PREP) was originally developed in partnership with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Felton’s (re)MIND® is an early psychosis coordinated specialty care model for early detection and treatment of schizophrenia spectrum disorders. (re)MIND® core evidence-based practices include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp), Strength-Based Care Management, Multi-family Group Therapy, Peer Support, Algorithm-Based Medication Management and Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model of supported education and employment. The (re)MIND® model has two additional components, Felton BEAM and BEAM UP, for individuals diagnosed with bipolar or mood disorders with psychosis and for individuals at clinical high risk of developing psychosis, respectively. Funded through partnerships with county behavioral health departments, the Felton Early Psychosis Division operates outpatient coordinated specialty care for early psychosis programs in San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, and Marin, and offers excellent training and workforce development.

 

Job Description

The psychiatric nurse practitioner exercises medical responsibilities for psychiatric evaluation, medication assessment and medication monitoring. Additionally, the PNP performs crisis intervention, supportive counseling, and other direct mental health services, including case management, and assists with 5150 evaluations, as needed. This position directs treatment planning and works as a member of multidisciplinary team. Services will be provided either at the program site or in other field locations as indicated and local travel between agency sites is expected.  This position reports directly to the Medical Director or their designee.

 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for psychiatric evaluation, medication assessment and medication monitoring.
  • Order diagnostic tests and ensure follow up with the appropriate medical specialty as needed.
  • Monitor vitals and order baseline and periodic labs.
  • Monitor, document, and address side effects including extrapyramidal symptoms and tardive dyskinesia when prescribing antipsychotic medication.
  • Administer Long Acting Injectables.
  • Coordinate care with (re)MIND® treatment team at Felton, county Behavioral Health, and with community partners.
  • Coordinate care with primary medical provider and/or counsel participant and family on medical issues.
  • Maintain participant caseload, as designated by Medical Director and/or Clinical Program Manager.
  • Maintain clinical records in accordance with mandated quality assurance standards.
  • Meet all deadlines and comply with agency's documentation requirements and productivity standards.
  • Attend all clinical, supervision, and administrative meetings as scheduled.
  • Consult and provide on-going education to non-medical staff in psychopharmacology and medical aspects of patient care.
  • Participate in the delivery of training and/or program presentations.
  • Attend and participate in all assigned trainings for professional, program, and agency development.
  • Additional duties as assigned. 

Minimum Requirements and Qualification

  • Verifiable completion of training in an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of nursing experience preferred, experience in community mental health a plus.
  • Training and experience in psychopharmacology required.
  • Current Nurse Practitioner license from State of California required.
  • Current furnishing number required.
  • Experience working with participants diagnosed with psychotic disorders preferred.
  • Personal or family experience of overcoming mental health challenges highly desirable.
  • Valid California Drivers’ License with a clean driving record.
  • Bilingual/bicultural and fluent in Spanish or threshold Asian languages is highly preferred.

Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to meet standards for timely clinical documentation, in accordance with mandated quality assurance standards for Medi-Cal and Medicare billing.
  • Knowledge of respective county behavioral health department, community resources and EHR system.
  • Knowledge of County, State, and Federal requirements for documentation and reporting, including Medi-Cal/Medicare standards, CPT codes, etc…
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and comply with agency's documentation requirements and productivity standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the welfare of individuals and families with mental/behavioral health issues.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
  • Demonstrated experience in diverse, multicultural, and multidisciplinary professional settings, serving individuals from diverse communities and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, and ability to work independently under broad supervision.
  • Ability to be a team player with a welcoming attitude. 

Additional Information:

Reports to: Medical Director (or their designee)

Job Type: Part-Time (20 hours a week)

Work Schedule: Onsite

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $53 - $57 per hour (DOE)
