At St. John’s Hospital, our Surgery Admit and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (SAU/PACU) is dedicated to guiding patients through every step of their surgical experience—from pre-operative preparation to safe recovery and discharge home.

 

Our specialized team provides:

  • The SAU/PACU provides comprehensive and specialized care in both pre-and post-operative care, including patient assessment, education, and recovery following anesthesia.  Anesthesia nursing includes monitoring vital signs, pain control, airway status, other critical nursing skills and overall stability post anesthesia until patients are transferred or discharged home.

Schedule: This is a day/evening position, 56 hours per pay period, 8 hour shifts (start times are: 5:30am, 8:00am and 11:00am and 2:00 pm) with weekends, holidays and call (call time is 30 minutes). 

 

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
  • Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care
  • Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
  • Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care
  • Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP)


Required Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Assoc)
  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • 1-2 years ICU experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
