Job Overview

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) on the Orthopedic Spine Unit at the Woodwinds Hospital located in Woodbury, MN.  

 

The Orthopedic Spine RN will deliver care to medical surgical adult patients with sophisticated medical conditions that require close observation, monitoring, and interventions. This unique department specializes in orthopedic procedures such as limb lengthening, orthopedic tumor removals, amputations, total joint replacements, and revisions. Woodwinds Health Campus opened its 86-bed hospital in August 2000. Located on 30 acres of pristine wetlands in Woodbury, MN, it’s the only hospital in the Southeast Metro area. Woodwinds provides convenient, comprehensive, and quality health care for the community. We're known for attention to detail—and attention to patients—and the calming ambiance is enhanced by the surrounding woods and wetlands.

 

Schedule: This position will be working 0.7 FTE (56 hours every two weeks) on the Day shift, 8 hour shifts, with an every other weekend rotation (F,S,S) and holiday rotation.

About Our Orthopedic Med/Surg 3 South at the Woodwinds Hospital:

  • 26 Beds – Medical Surgical/Ortho Private Rooms
    • Care Delivery: 4 patients per RN on Day/Eve Shift, 5-6 patients on Night Shift.
  • RN’s on 3 South Orthopedics are responsible to achieve and maintain our great patient care outcomes by coordinating complete and compassionate care.
    • This may include helping patients to set achievable goals for discharge, establishing and updating a plan of care, full physical assessment and post-operative care for our orthopedic patient population.
  • Department specializes in orthopedic procedures such as total joint replacements, revisions, spine surgeries, shoulder surgeries, general Med/Surg and general ortho.
  • Adult Patients 18+
  • Patient average length of stay is 1-3 days.

The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.

  • Demonstrates commitment to principles of the patient care model (Professional Partnership Model) and achieving the Woodwinds nursing vision and strategy.
  • Uses the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to coordinate outcome focused patient care. Throughout this process, also understands and incorporates holistic nursing theory based on Watson's Theory of Caring aligning with the practice standards of the American Holistic Nurses Association whenever comprehensive therapy is offered.
  • Communicates effectively with patient/family, physicians, the interdependent team, and other fields regarding the plan of care.
  • Assesses and documents learning needs of the patient and family. Develops an individualized education plan for patients and families based on identified needs.
  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements at the point of care to achieve clinical quality, customer experience, nursing engagement, and efficiency and effectiveness outcomes.
  • Aligns with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, board of nursing requirements, patient safety requirements, infection control practices, and other established practice standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Coordinates the interdependent team while promoting collaborative teamwork and cooperation.
  • Aides in the development and achievement of department goals (safety, cost, quality, patient experience, employee engagement).
  • Maintains knowledge of, and follows, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Nursing
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Valid RN License from MN Board of Nursing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Will consider new grads
  • Acute Care experience
  • Charge Nurse experience
