About this role

Job Overview

This Clinical Dietician is a float position to cover multiple adult units in the East and West campuses of the University of Minnesota Medical Center located in Minneapolis, MN. This position is 48 hours bi-weekly on Day Shift and is benefit eligible!

 

The Clinical Dietitian coordinates the provision of medical nutrition therapy with other members of the health care team. The Clinical Dietitian identifies patients at nutrition risk, assesses nutrition needs according to age and disease specific requirements and develops, implements and monitors the nutrition care plan and outcomes of intervention. The Dietitian provides nutrition education to patient, families, health care professionals and the community. Responsibilities include support of the nutrition care delivery system, precepting of dietetic interns/students and participation in performance improvement and research activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develops Patient’s Nutrition Care Plan
  • Completes nutrition assessment according to department policy.
  • Develops an individualized plan based on age, culture, social consideration conditions, and other relevant needs.
  • Collaborates with patient, family and other healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Orders supplements, diets, nutrition therapy and other pertinent items according to the Medical Nutrition Therapy Protocol Policy
  • Documents appropriately and revises as necessary
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team for safe, quality care.
  • Identifies interdisciplinary resources needed to assist in implementation and makes referrals as needed.
  • Applies knowledge and principles established in the Medical Nutrition Therapy Practice Guidelines to determine the most appropriate action plan.
  • Evaluates, systematically and continuously, the patients’ response to interventions
  • Provides Patient/Family/Community Education
  • Plans and presents educational programs which meet the assessed needs and capabilities of inpatients, outpatients, community groups, and health care professionals using appropriate department educational materials and lesson plans. Considers population served.
  • Evaluates patient knowledge, readiness to learn, and potential for behavioral changes
  • Assists patients, families and community members in identifying and securing available resources to achieve necessary goals.
  • Serves as a preceptor and helps clients and dietetic interns/students apply nutrition knowledge and skills.
  • Appropriately documents in the medical record.
  • Maintains current educational material and resources.
  • Uses communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes and enhanced teamwork
  • Communicates and receives verbal and written information in a clear, concise, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Communicates with members of the healthcare team, patients and families and documents relevant information accordingly.
  • Documentation follows organizational and/or regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Communicates information to the appropriate personnel in the Nutrition Department
  • Demonstrates Quality in Practice
  • Implements quality practice by following system policies/procedures, practice guidelines, and Medical Nutrition Therapy protocols.
  • Effectively uses resources as personnel, monies, equipment and time in the provision of nutritional care.
  • Provides care according to organizational ethics, Code of Ethics for profession of dietetics, licensure, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Standards of Professional Practice (SOPP) for dietetic professionals.
  • Meets Joint Commission and/or other regulatory standards.
  • Identifies performance improvement criteria to monitor effectiveness of services and participates in the performance improvement process activities.
  • Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of practice and revises practice to incorporate evaluation results.
  • With specialized training, demonstrated competency, and delineated clinical privileges, may place nasoenteric access devices and bridles


Required Qualifications

  • M.A./M.S.
  • Commission on Dietetic Registration/Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (A.N.D) registered or registration eligible - if not already registered within 180 Days
  • Minnesota State Licensure from the Minnesota Board of Dietetics and Nutrition Practice - if licensed outside the state of Minnesota, must have receipt of licensure within 6 months of hire. If not yet registered, must have receipt licensure within 6 months of hire within 180 Days

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years experience as a clinical dietitian.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, plus good computer skills

Compensation Disclaimer

The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical.
