ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Mortgage Officer, Small Commercial Underwriting will assist commercial originations with the completion of commercial mortgage files in accordance with Company policies and guidelines. This position will drive quality, through accuracy and efficiency while ensuring required service levels are achieved.
In addition:
Review, analyze and verify mortgage documentation/application for completeness, accuracy, suitability and risk to ensure compliance with all aspects of Home Trust Company’s underwriting policies, procedures and guidelines per delegated authority matrices
Adhere to applicable compliance obligations including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing and internal Anti-Fraud Policy requirements must remain the over-arching focus in carrying out one’s responsibilities
File Unusual Transaction Reports as applicable to fulfil individual employee obligations to detect and deter financial crimes activity
Maintain consistent, objective and sound risk assessments in a high volume, service-oriented environment
Review mortgage files to ensure client documentation meets all Company lending policies, guidelines and procedures
Ensure the information recorded in the SAM system for all commercial mortgages is consistently accurate and complete
Manage, compile, review and organize mortgage documentation on a timely basis in a high volume and service-oriented environment
Maintain clean OSFI and Internal Audit reports
Manage and remediate all internal audit and other audit findings as required
Maintain a pipeline of all transactions and a list & file of all transactions amended or declined or approved
Instruct files to solicitors and conduct daily follow-up with brokers to ensure all required documentation has been submitted
Work closely with Small Commercial Underwriting to ensure file completeness
Assist with special projects or other new initiatives as needed
Adhere to defined Service Level Agreement in acknowledging applications and following up on additional required information
Work effectively with all internal business partners to improve underwriting systems to maximize effectiveness and achieve excellence
Remain current on latest developments within industry and market trends to secure competitive advantage
WHAT WE REQUIRE:
Authorized to work in Canada
Great communication skills
Post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in business management, finance, or related field (university an asset)
Post-secondary degree or diploma in related area or discipline; University degree an asset
Additional relevant accreditation(s), certification(s) are strong assets
2 years in administrative environment preferably within mortgage industry an asset
Strong organizational, time-management and analytical skills
Strong interpersonal relationship building and listening skills
Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Good listener, effective written / verbal communication, and professional maturity
Experience reviewing and adjudicating commercial mortgage applications.
Expected salary range is $55,000 to $66,000 per year.
