About this role

FactSet creates flexible, open data and software solutions for over 200,000 investment professionals worldwide, providing instant access to financial data and analytics that investors use to make crucial decisions.

At FactSet, our values are the foundation of everything we do. They express how we act and operate, serve as a compass in our decision-making, and play a big role in how we treat each other, our clients, and our communities. We believe that the best ideas can come from anyone, anywhere, at any time, and that curiosity is the key to anticipating our clients’ needs and exceeding their expectations.

Your Team's Impact

FactSet’s Deep Sector Oil & Gas team delivers critical fundamental analysis and sector-specific content to a diverse client base including investment banks, private equity firms, commodity traders, oil and gas producers, and midstream operators. We drive innovation and shape market-relevant analytics for current and future energy challenges, centered on the highest standards of customized solutions and insightful data products.

You will join a multinational team of subject matter experts and data engineers spanning the United States, India, and Bulgaria to transform oil and gas well-level data sourced from multiple government agencies into clean, user facing content. FactSet acquires oil and gas well data directly from over 40 regulatory bodies in the United States and Canada. We then clean, merge, and enhance these disparate datasets using database stored procedures and proprietary models. The oil and gas team is responsible for ensuring that monthly data collection and cleaning processes are executed correctly and on time. A major emphasis is placed on quality control and building robust quality assurance practices to ensure that user-facing data is timely and free of error.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Oil & Gas Data Specialist, you will:

  • Serve as an expert on government-reported oil and gas well data. This will require developing deep expertise in the structure, collection methods, and nuances of diverse data sources from a variety of national, state, and provincial agencies.
  • Lead efforts to validate, clean, merge, and enhance large technical datasets, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of data delivered to FactSet clients.
  • Develop and implement best practices in data quality assurance and quality control, troubleshooting data anomalies and collaborating closely with other subject matter experts, engineering, and product teams across time zones.
  • Collaborate internationally, communicating effectively across the U.S. and India-based teams, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our data manufacturing workflows.
  • Provide clear documentation, insights, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Mineral/Energy Economics, or a related STEM discipline.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working with large, complex technical datasets (ideally in oil & gas).
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency using SQL for data querying and manipulation as well as demonstrated experience writing and testing stored procedures.
  • Experience using PowerBI for data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional and multi-national team.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Skills

  • Direct experience with oil and gas well level data from North America.
  • Experience working on distributed teams across multiple countries and time zones.
  • Familiarity with Python programming is an advantage.
