• Under the administrative direction of the Lead Radiology Technologist and the medical direction of qualified radiologist, the Technologist is responsible for performing radiologic exams as ordered by attending physician. Complies with all federal, state, and regulatory requirements while maintaining the confidentiality of protected health information. Work assignments will require patient involvement with all age populations including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics

Essential Position Responsibilities
• The essential position responsibilities are the basis for the 90 day and annual evaluation.

This list is intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed and not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties required of personnel.

  1. Ensures a valid physicians order has been received before greeting patient.
  2. Transports patient to diagnostic ultrasound room.
  3. Verifies patients full name and date of birth
  4. Verifies patients information on armband is correct
  5. Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, providing explanation of exam to be performed and answering patient question related to the process.
  6. Prepares patient for sonographic procedure by positing patient, adjusting immobilization devise; moving equipment into specified position, adjusting equipment controls.
  7. Wears assigned dosimeter monitor badge when assisting with other examinations to facilitate the measurement of cumulative radiation doses.
  8. Protects patients and employees by adhering to department and hospital safety and infection control policies and procedures.
  9. Responds quickly and appropriately to adverse patient reactions.
  10. Ensures the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of patient exams and reported results.
  11. Records anatomical, pathological and or physiology data for interpretation by the physician.
  12. Identifies, records and adapts procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
  13. Produces acceptable quantity and quality sonograms following established standards and procedures, observing results and making necessary adjustments
  14. Willingly accepts other duties and responsibilities.
  15. Completes and appropriately documents assigned responsibilities.
  16. Responds appropriately when STAT orders are received.
  17. Communicates appropriate information to radiologist, lead radiologic technologist and physicians in a prompt and professional manner.
  18. Seeks ways to improve patient care by participation in the radiology departmental and hospital performance improvement activities.
  19. Coordinates and participates in continuing education and in-service requirements
  20. Reports equipment malfunctions to lead technologist promptly. Follows instructions of lead technologist before contacting equipment vendors to schedule service calls.
  21. Maintains an efficient, clean, and safe working environment
  22. Responsible for the efficient and cost effective use of supplies and inventory
  23. Presents a professional and positive image in appearance by adhering to appropriate dress for department and conversing with patients and other customers in a kind, compassionate and respectful manner.
  24. Assist with restocking depleted supplies before end of work shift
  25. Adapts effectively to changes in departmental policy and assignment of duties
  26. Communicates effectively and professionally with hospital personnel regarding conflict resolution
  27. Performs all other related assignments and special projects as requested.QualificationsMinimal Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited medical sonographer program and current ARDMS registration.
• Strong written and oral communication and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of equipment, required techniques, and computer applications used for radiologic exams.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers required.

Physical/Mental Demands
• Ability to think and work effectively under stress with frequent interruptions; to move, sit, stand, walk, and bend intermittently throughout the work day. Lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
• Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable the applicant to adequately fulfill the requirements of this position.
• Use of mechanical and technical equipment required for the responsibilities assigned.
• External and internal applicants who are/become disabled, must be able to perform the essential position responsibilities unaided or with assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined on a case by case basis.

Occupational Exposure to Blood borne Pathogens
• Category I – Routinely involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or airborne particles.

Orientation Period
• Up to 90 days to perform proficiently all essential position responsibilities. The first ninety (90) days this position is assumed is considered the probationary/introductory period, for which the employee is subject to continuous review.
