
Position Description
• Under the direction of the Director of the Emergency Room, the Paramedic's responsibility is to perform all duties necessary to administer advanced first aid treatment and to care for sick and injured persons in accordance with accreditation standards, federal, state, and local regulations, Provides care to the neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations as certified. Responds to potential life threatening situations or illnesses.
Essential Position Responsibilities
• The essential position responsibilities are the basis for the 90 day and annual evaluation.
This list is intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed and not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties required of personnel.
o Paramedics who are employed by the hospital MAY perform the follow in the ED after demonstration of competency and appropriate certifications, when applicable:
o Attends EMH/EMS orientation upon employment and completes annual update and health requirements thereafter and in accordance with timeframes specified by EMH/EMS policy.
o Demonstrates a working knowledge of and/or location of EMS policies and procedures and appropriate EMH policies and procedures as well as adheres to them.
o Exhibits a working knowledge of information management, confidentiality, patient safety, corporate compliance and infection control.
o Completes required competencies, licensure, certification and registration recertification in a timely manner, as well as participates in continuing education.
o Arrives to work on time, on scheduled days, during scheduled hours. Maintains flexibility with work schedule in meeting the needs of EMS.
o Provides age specific care demonstrating knowledge of growth and development, system assessment and developing an interdisciplinary plan of care addressing culture, religion and ethnic preferences.
o Utilizes equipment and materials in a cost effective manner.
o Serves as a preceptor in orienting and/or training new personnel.
o Follows chain of command whenever issues or problems arise which are beyond scope of practice.
o Performs essential job functions in an acceptable quantity and quality.
o Organizes and prioritizes work in a manner consistent with safe, efficient and cost effective resource utilization.
o Demonstrates support for the mission/vision of EMH.
Minimal Qualifications
• Education level equivalent to completion of a Paramedic program. Must hold the following certifications: Georgia Certified Paramedic; CPR; BLS; ACLS and PALS. One (1) year EMS experience preferred.
Physical/Mental Demands
• Ability to think and work effectively under stress with frequent interruptions; to move, sit, stand, walk, and bend intermittently throughout the work day. Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable the applicant to adequately fulfill the requirements of this position.
• Use of mechanical and technical equipment required for the responsibilities assigned.
• External and internal applicants who are/become disabled, must be able to perform the essential position responsibilities with unaided or with assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined on a case by case basis.
Occupational Exposure to Blood borne Pathogens
• Category 1 – Tasks that exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
Orientation Period
• Up to 90 days to perform proficiently all essential position responsibilities. The first ninety (90) days this position is assumed is considered the probationary/introductory period, for which the employee is subject to continuous review.
