Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center in Wilmington, NC is hiring an experienced Veterinary Technician to join their outstanding Oncology team!


Compensation: $20 - $35/hr, based on experience and licensure. 

Schedule: Full-Time, four 10-hour shifts.

ECVMC is a fast-growing Emergency and Specialty provider here in Wilmington, NC. We are expanding our services to include medical oncology and are looking to establish our founding team members. In our new department, we will help our patients receive the care they need when facing a life altering cancer diagnosis. We provide care with therapies that include chemotherapy, surgical recommendations, radiation therapy recommendations, palliative care, and end of life care. We are looking for collaborative and driven people to establish and grow our newest team.

We are seeking individuals who feel they can daily live out the goals of exceptional patient care, teamwork, compassion all within a fast-paced work environment.

Sadly, cancer is often a diagnosis faced by families and individuals with pets. We are looking to develop a team capable of strong bonds with our patients, and clients, requiring compassion and exceptional consistent patient care. Our Medical Oncology technicians will develop excellent venipuncture skills, have high attention to detail and will gain experience in chemotherapy treatments and more.

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Provide gentle and low-stress handling of oncology patients, ensuring comfort and emotional support throughout visits and treatments.
  • Monitor patient condition and behavior during exams, treatments, and recovery, reporting changes to the supervising veterinarian.
  • Assist with patient intake, physical exams, and follow-up appointments. Ability to coordinate and manage client communication via phone and email with indirect supervision.
  • Administer oral, injectable, and IV medications as prescribed.
  • Prepare, administer, and properly dispose of chemotherapy agents according to hospital and safety protocols. Excellent venipuncture skills in order to learn or execute safe chemotherapy administration. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  •  LVT certification is preferred, VTS of Oncology is prioritized. At least 2 years of veterinary experience (required) with a strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology required. Prior Oncology experience with a strong understanding of chemotherapy safety and handling protocols preferred.

  • Attention to detail, with strong communication skills with both clients and team members, and a commitment to exceptional patient care.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely.
