About this role

Job Summary:
A Provider Liaison collaborates with the Health Information Management Department, mid-level Providers, Community Providers, Employed Providers, and Residents to help mitigate any issues they may have in regard to completing medical records. The Provider Liaison monitors deficiencies within the electronic health record system using a variety of reports generated by the software. The Provider Liaison communicates regularly with Providers and/or their support staff to have chart deficiencies completed in a timely manner and trouble-shoots any issues. Assist Providers with chart completion issues. This position is required to evaluate all deficiencies that a Provider declines to complete and either resends, reassigns, or completes the deficiency depending on the outcome of their investigation of the patient's chart. The Provider Liaison also releases notifications and facilitates administrative holds on Provider privileges for delinquent medical records in accordance with Erlanger Health Bylaws/Rules and Regulations. The Provider Liaison may be required to backfill the following job functions; (EWCH these are part of the daily responsibilities) eHIM chart analysis, transcribed documentation prioritization, scanning, duplicate medical records, answering phones, sorting faxes and mail.

Education:
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred:
Bachelor Degree with HIM

Experience:
Required: Three-years of experience in a Health Information Management department or equivalent in a health care setting.

Preferred: Skilled in the use of personal computer and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, E-mail and PowerPoint. Well organized with the ability to work independently, identify priorities, and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain positive communication with Providers, associates, staff and general public. Must keep all medical/administrative information confidential. Knowledge of medical terminology and business law. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must maintain impeccable integrity at all time.

Department Position Summary:
This position needs to be knowledgeable of Federal, State, DNV, and other Regulatory agency requirements in relation to electronic medical record completion. Consistency, accuracy, promptness, and adherence to standard processes are of paramount importance.

This candidate must be familiar with Electronic Health Records, web-based transcription systems, and electronic document/image systems in order to conduct an accurate and thorough chart analysis.

On a monthly basis this position is responsible for sending notifications to all Providers that have delinquent medical records, this requires continuous follow-up, and may result in an administrative hold on a Provider's hospital privileges if delinquencies persist.

This candidate will be responsible for intercepting declined deficiencies by a Provider, identifying deficits within in the medical record, and assign deficiencies to designated Health Care Providers in order to obtain any missing elements.

This position requires the demonstration of critical thinking skills, the ability to work independently, and the knowledge base to trouble-shoot complex issues in regard to medical records completion.

Candidates must be familiar with HIPPA guidelines when communicating with Providers, hospital staff, and while evaluating a patient's chart. All things viewed in a patient's chart will remain confidential during the staff's analysis of a chart deficiency.

This position should be proficient in basic release of information guidelines set forth by Erlanger Health System, the state, and the federal government in order to correctly report the minimum amount of information necessary to assist those calling or walking-in to the department, and when faxing documentation for completion.

The candidate must consistently meet or exceed productivity and quality standards as defined by the HIM Leadership.

This position has the authority to solve problems following established company guidelines. Decisions that must be referred to a supervisor are; matters that can negatively impact the company, time-off requests, sick time, work schedules, interoffice problems, or any other issues that may arise that are not covered in the Standard of Work.
