Type: Contract

About Equal Experts

Our network is made up of associates - who typically work with us as independent contractors or freelancers. Our associates are all at an expert level (10+ years of experience) who thrive on tackling channeling problems and enjoy having autonomy to do their best work.

We’re looking for a senior UX Consultant specializing in Accessibility & Inclusion who enjoys working with people as much as working with standards. This is a highly collaborative, UX-adjacent role focused on improving real user experiences.

Success means helping teams make visible progress under real constraints and fixed deadlines, while advocating for inclusive design and bringing strong accessibility expertise.

What you’ll do

  • Review VPATs and accessibility documentation for enterprise and digital systems

  • Interpret automated and AI-based accessibility assessments using expert judgement and user impact

  • Translate compliance findings into clear UX risk, impact and remediation guidance

  • Define alternative access plans and phased remediation approaches

  • Act as a point of contact for user-reported accessibility barriers and coordinate fixes

  • Design and deliver practical, engaging accessibility training for non-technical audiences

  • Create clear, reusable guidance, templates and resources

  • Work with cross-functional teams on web, LMS, document, social and digital content accessibility

  • Support organization-wide accessibility processes and culture change

What we’re looking for

  • Strong working knowledge of WCAG and digital accessibility standards

  • Hands-on experience assessing accessibility across systems, web content and documents

  • Experience interpreting VPATs (or equivalent) and advising on remediation

  • Pragmatic problem-solving and sound judgement under delivery constraints

  • Excellent communication skills and experience influencing without authority

  • Confidence working in complex, autonomous environments (e.g. public sector or higher education)

Nice to have

  • Experience with AI- or tool-assisted accessibility assessments

  • Familiarity with higher education or public-sector contexts

  • Experience working to externally driven regulatory deadlines
