About this role

Job Summary

  • Develops, executes and promotes the Ephraim McDowell Health Bariatric program to meet the standards for excellence while obtaining certification in Bariatrics.
  • Maintains the Bariatric program certification and meets compliance and reporting requirements through reports and presentations.
  • As a member of the perioperative healthcare team, the Bariatrics Coordinator provides clinical and technical assistance to surgeons, charge nurses, and technicians in the Operating Room.
  • Has a strong understanding of the vision and goals set forth by EMH leaders regarding the Bariatric service line.
  • Collects pertinent data regarding the Bariatric program and presents outcomes to EMH leadership teams. Collaborates and communicates with Vendor representatives as needed.
  • Has knowledge of surgical specialty (terminology, equipment, materials, policy, procedures, surgical attire, and fundamental methods relating to surgery).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of data collection and research protocols.
  • Organizes meetings and other events (Clinics, Symposiums) that include internal and external project members, including coordinating meeting times, places, agendas, publishing meeting notes and tracking on follow up and action items.
  • Knowledgeable of surgical procedures. Seeks opportunities to develop skills in areas that are important to meeting the goals of the Organization.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines such as with scheduling to maximize use of Bariatric OR time, Central Services, to ensure instrumentation meets the guidelines for cleaning and sterilization/appropriate for the procedures.
  • Collaborates with the central services supervisor to create Bariatric preference cards and to keep the preference cards updated.
  • Serves as a liaison between EMH, Vendor representatives and health care professionals.
  • Manages Bariatric surgery schedule to maximize ROI to EMH. Creates and monitors metrics specific to Bariatric business to include turnover times, intraoperative costs, and ancillary costs.
  • Excellent writing, communication, computer and interpersonal skills with the ability to multitask in response to deadlines and priorities.
  • Demonstrates technical equipment to surgeons or visiting groups.
  • Adheres to practice in accordance with the Ephraim McDowell Health nursing professional practice model and performance that accomplishes patient and family centered care as central to practice and a foundation of caring, compassion, competence, communication, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Responsible to participate in shared nursing leadership to accomplish positive outcomes, education, respect, dignity, and safety.

Working Conditions, Hazards and Physical Effort

Works in a well-lighted, ventilated and air conditioned area. Often exposed to unpleasant odors, sights, and sounds. Long periods in a stationary position and moving around the unit are required. Risks exposure to disease, infection and physical strain, and assault. Risks exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, radiation and anti-neoplastic agents. Must be able to move or position 50 lbs. independently. May work all shifts, some weekends, overtime and/or call.

Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience in the clinical setting required. Three to five (3-5) years of demonstrated competency in Bariatrics and coordination of Bariatric programs preferred.
