Prison Education Coordinator

Position Summary:

Provide day-to-day operational, academic, and student success support for Ensign College programs at correctional facilities. The role helps implement a spiritually grounded, skills-based programs from Ensign College at correctional facilities, aligning all logistics with the program vision, Ensign College policies, Department of Corrections (DOC) regulations, and Church Educational System (CES) standards. The mission of Ensign College is to develop capable and trusted disciples of Jesus Christ. 


Program Operations and Logistics

  • Coordinate prison-site course schedules, room reservations, and technology access.

  • Maintain compliance documentation and security clearances for faculty, volunteers, and mentors.

  • Track and report enrollment, persistence, and completion metrics to the Director.

Curriculum & Faculty Support

  • Assist the Director and Instructional Designers in adapting courses for correctional facility security.

  •  Prepare adjunct and volunteer instructor contracts and training materials.

  • Collect and organize assessment data and draft summaries for program reviews.

Student Services

  • Serve as a point of contact for incarcerated students—answer questions about access, admissions, registration, financial arrangements, and academic progress.

  • Facilitate orientation sessions and coordinate delivery of advising, tutoring, and career-planning resources.

  • Coordinate student access with Department of Corrections staff.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Pilot and document innovative learning modalities (e.g., offline LMS, secure tablets) approved by the Director.

  • Gather qualitative and quantitative feedback; recommend refinements to processes, policies, and partnerships.

Partnership & Communication

  • Liaise with Dept of Corrections education officers and other staff, along with Ensign staff and leadership to resolve operational issues.

  • Represent the program at internal meetings in the Director’s absence and prepare concise status reports.

Administrative & Fiscal Support

  • Manage program calendars, meeting agendas, and purchasing/expense reports.

  • Maintain SharePoint sites and documents that house program documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution preferred or related work experience. 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Organizational Excellence—able to juggle multiple timelines, keep meticulous records, and meet strict deadlines.

  • Interpersonal & Cross-cultural Communication—build trust with incarcerated learners, corrections officials, faculty, and Church volunteers. Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills to represent the college with internal and external partners, and collaborate across organizational boundaries.

  • Problem Solving & Adaptability—navigate unexpected facility lockdowns, technology limitations, and evolving regulations with calm resourcefulness.

  • Technical Proficiency—competent in LMS administration, Microsoft 365 (Excel, Teams, SharePoint), and data-tracking tools.

  • Mission Alignment—demonstrated commitment to developing “capable and trusted disciples of Jesus Christ” through education.
