POSITION SUMMARY:
The GI Technician is a self-motivated individual who is responsible for assisting the professional nurse and/or physician in assuring continuity of care during the pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and immediate post-procedure periods of the patient’s procedural experience. They directly assist the physician during GI/Pulmonary cases and can assist in interventional GI/Pulmonary cases as back up. The GI Technician supports and contributes to the service excellence mission of Enloe Health and the Gastroenterology/Endoscopy Department. This position will be included in call rotation for basic and emergency endoscopic procedures.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:
One year GI, peri-operative or health related fields involving direct patient care experience OR prior experience working in a health care environment utilizing aseptic and sterile technique
Desired:
Two years GI, peri-operative or health related fields
Graduate of school for surgical technologists and/or U.S. military healthcare training
Completion of college course in anatomy/physiology

Current CPR recognition
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Skills must demonstrate a professional responsibility, and the ability to work as a team member in providing care to the GI/Pulmonary patient undergoing basic endoscopic procedures and serve as back up GI Tech for more advanced endoscopic procedures. Must be able to interact professionally and effectively communicate with physicians, staff, patients, and public. Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and problem solve efficiently. Must have the ability to work in a demanding environment while remaining calm, efficient and focused. Proficiency in all aspects of identification, care and maintenance of procedural equipment. Must complete the Aseptic Technique. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
