About this role

Sha Tin Junior School is seeking to appoint a Head of Support commencing from August 2026.  The position will be on a 2-year full-time contract, renewable by mutual consent. See ESF Terms and Condition for further details of the package.

Responsibilities

TLR 2 Head of Support Role

  • Review and implement policies and practices for SEN (in conjunction with ESF policy) which reflect the highest standards of teaching and learning. 
  • Use evidence effectively to identify strengths and areas of improvement in the provision for SEN children and where necessary, create and implement effective plans of action for support.
  • In conjunction with LMT and teaching colleagues, prepare and review the School Development/Improvement Plan (SDP) for SEN based on identified strengths and weaknesses in the area. 
  • Create a climate which enables other staff to develop and maintain positive attitudes and confidence towards teaching children with Special Educational Needs.
  • Support teachers catering for SEN children within their classrooms. 
  • Ensure that information about pupils’ achievements in previous classes and schools is used effectively to ensure continued progress. 
  • Liaise with parents of children with SEN in conjunction with the class teacher. 
  • Assist/guide teachers and educational assistants in the implementation of IEP’s. 
  • Liaise with external agencies including other schools, educational psychological service, SEN professionals, health and voluntary bodies. 
  • Liaise with other SENCO’s.

Leadership and Management Roles 

  • Establish clear expectations and constructive working relationships among staff. 
  • Sustain own motivation and enjoyment, maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of SEN developments. 
  • Ascertain professional development needs of staff, providing training and induction as appropriate. 
  • Work with other staff in providing advice and support for children with special needs. 
  • Ensure regular dialogue with SMT about the development and improvement of SEN children and provision. 
  • Work with SMT and ESF FMT, to prepare for and respond to the outcomes of any evaluations or external inspections. 
  • Maintain and oversee individual records on all children with SEN. 
  • Provide an up-to-date record of all children on the SEN register (class by class) including their teaching programme and Individual Education Plan (IEP). 
  • Contribute actively in the ESF (SEN) group and disseminate information to staff. 
  • Contribute to parent education programmes in conjunction with staff. 
  • Ensure the effective, efficient management, organisation and use of learning resources. 
  • Maintain existing resources and explore opportunities to develop or incorporate new resources from a wide range of sources inside and outside the school and submit budget priorities. 
  • Model and promote an effective and stimulating environment for the 
    teaching of SEN.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Education, or
  • Bachelor Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
  • Evidence of further professional study eg. Masters in Education
  • Recent IB/PYP and middle leadership experience is essential
  • Achievement of and adherence to professional standards
