The Tides Inn is a beloved waterfront, luxury resort nestled on Carter’s Creek in Irvington, Virginia. The property has been a cherished destination for generations and has recently undergone a number of renovations and enhancements that are helping elevate the brand and overall experience. The Tides features 70 luxurious accommodations, tennis and pickleball courts, wellness treatments, a working farm, Markers Space (for artistic activities), its own marina and two distinct restaurants, Salt & Meadow Restaurant and Fish Hawk Oyster Bar.

As it has evolved, the Tides Inn is becoming more widely recognized for its elite programming, culinary experiences, commitment to environmental stewardship, and world-class hospitality.

 

 

Job Summary

The Food & Beverage Manager embodies the Tides Inn’s spirit of refined hospitality—creating a welcoming environment where guests feel known, cared for, and inspired by the flavors of the region. This leader guides the daily operations of our two dining outlets—each offering thoughtful, locally sourced menus across 21 weekly meal periods.

This is a hands-on, floor-forward role for a hospitality professional who leads with kindness, sets the tone for elevated service, and brings a deep respect for the craft of food and beverage.

 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Regular and Reliable Attendance is an essential function of this role. 

 

Guest Experience Guided by the Chesapeake Spirit

  • Serve as a warm, visible presence in our dining rooms, setting the pace for gracious, attentive service.
  • Uphold and elevate the hotel’s established standards, ensuring each guest encounter reflects our values of care, authenticity, and artistry.
  • Respond to guest needs with the Tides Inn’s hallmark grace, thoughtfulness, and attention to detail.

  • Inspire, mentor, and guide a dedicated team committed to service excellence.

Culinary & Beverage Collaboration

  • Partner closely with the Director of Food & Beverage, Executive Chef and beverage leadership to deliver menus and beverage programs that showcase the best of the Chesapeake Bay.
  • Support initiatives that move the Tides Inn toward national culinary recognition, with a focus on seasonality, locality, and sustainability.
  • Ensure every dish and drink is presented with pride, consistency, and artistry.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee daily operation of all dining outlets with precision, ease, and a guest-focused mindset.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and organization across the department.
  • Ensure seamless communication between front-of-house and back-of-house teams.

Responsible Stewardship & Financial Management

  • Assist with managing budgeting, labor planning, inventory controls, and cost strategies while honoring responsible sourcing practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regional purveyors, growers, and watermen aligned with our commitment to sustainability.

Strategic Vision & Special Experiences

  • Lead initiatives that enhance the Tides Inn’s culinary identity in alignment with various accreditations. 
  • Support the creation of seasonal events, wine dinners, chef collaborations, and Chesapeake-inspired experiences.
  • Partner with marketing to tell compelling stories rooted in our place and purpose.
  • Exemplifies the Tides Inn Mission and Values.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of progressive leadership in luxury or fine-dining environments; Forbes, Michelin, or Relais & Châteaux experience strongly preferred.
  • A leadership style defined by warmth, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Strong understanding of wine, beverage programs, and service choreography at the highest level.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust and inspire confidence.
  • Aptitude for operational and financial management.
  • Appreciation for coastal living, local partnerships, and sustainable sourcing.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and peak service times.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required, Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred.
