The Opportunity 

The role of the Academic Advisor II involves counseling students with academic advisement concerning degree curriculums, academic regulations, procedures, policies, interpretation of the Official Advising Report, program changes, transfer credit, advanced standing, and graduate requirements. Academic Advisors are responsible for monitoring student progress from the time of admission throughout graduation. Advisors are responsible for conducting individual advising sessions to assist students in course selection, degree planning, and academic goal settings.

Advisors develop personalized degree plans to counsel and assist students with registration and to ensure student persistence. Serves as the liaison between the student and various partner offices and colleges. Responsible for proactively communicating to student via email, text/chat, phone, in person meetings and virtual meetings. Advisors will promote student/advisor appointments and student engagement at every opportunity.

The position requires independent judgement and decision making and the utilization of resources in the assessment and resolution of student issues. Collects research and data on student trends pertaining to retention and academic success. Conducts details analyses of student academic records. Assists with coverage of student files when needed due to extended advisor personal leave. Advisors are expected to communicate with students proactively to promote student retention and maintain a high level of customer service.

The Academic Advisor II position requires additional team responsibilities and serves as a positive influence for advising team members and the department and university.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree, Masters preferred

Required skills, knowledge, abilities:

  • Ability to articulate components of effective academic advising practices, demonstrated use of proactive and/or innovative approaches to working with college students which resulted in positive outcomes in persistence and retention.
  • Appreciative Advising certification and or/training, experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and Salesforce or other advising tools preferred
