About this role

Overview

Element has an opportunity for an Associate Metallurgist (2nd Shift). The Associate Metallurgist will support the metallurgical laboratory in performing a wide range of material testing and analysis activities. This role is responsible for preparing and analyzing metal samples, interpreting test results, maintaining lab equipment, and contributing to continuous improvement in lab practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in metallurgical principles, hands-on laboratory experience, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

 

Salary: $30- $35/hour Depending on Experience + $3.00 Shift Differential 

Hours: 2-10:30pm 

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with ISO 17025 requirements and company quality procedures.

  • Perform metallurgical analysis on metallic (ferrous and non-ferrous) components and generate test certificates and reports.

  • Conduct material testing and analysis, including but not limited to:

    • Microstructural evaluation

    • Grain size determination

    • Macro examination

    • Microhardness testing

    • Phase determination

    • General metallurgical assessments

  • Review and interpret test results, ensuring accuracy and adherence to client and specification requirements.

  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding metallurgical findings, recommendations, and technical issues.

  • Supervise and guide laboratory technicians, ensuring work is executed according to the testing schedule and safety standards.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining laboratory accreditation and quality standards.

  • Assist with other departmental activities as assigned to support the achievement of Element Technology’s annual goals and budget targets.

Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field is required.
  • 1+ years of relevant lab or industry experience preferred but not required
  • Strong understanding of metallurgical processes, material properties, and failure mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with lab data management systems is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

 

Work Environment:

This position is based in a metallurgical laboratory and may involve occasional work in adjacent industrial or production areas. The role requires frequent standing, walking, and bending throughout the day to perform hands-on tasks. The Associate Metallurgist must be able to sit for extended periods during data entry and analysis, and must be comfortable working with small tools and precision instruments.

 

The role also requires the ability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and lab coats must be worn as required to ensure safety during sample preparation and testing. The lab environment is temperature-controlled but may involve brief exposure to noise, dust, or chemicals in compliance with safety standards.

 

NOTE: This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services.  U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), or U.S. Government export authorization is required.
