For the first two years, you’ll train at the National College for Nuclear in Somerset. You’ll have access to cutting-edge facilities including virtual reality environments and outstanding student accommodation rated by Ofsted in 2024. This nuclear engineering apprenticeship gives you hands-on experience and industry-recognised qualifications to start your career in the UK energy sector. This programme is part of EDF’s mission to drive the transition towards an Electric Britain.

Your Work Location

You’ll be based at the National College for Nuclear Southern Hub in Somerset for the first two years, with accommodation available if you live outside the area. You’ll then be based at your EDF location for years 3 and 4 which will be Torness Power Station.

What You’ll Experience

  • Opportunities to work on real-world engineering challenges
  • A clear pathway for progression into technical or leadership roles

Who You Are

To be eligible for this EDF apprenticeship programme, you need to have five GCSEs at Grade C or above (or Grade 4 and above in the new grading structure), National 5 or equivalent, including maths, English and two science or technical subjects.

Following online testing, you may be invited to an in person Assessment Centre, which could lead to an interview at a later date.

Security Vetting

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the last five years.
