About the team and the role:


The Design Director for our Live Design team plays a pivotal role in redefining the future of social commerce by shaping the future of real-time shopping. In this leadership position, you will lead our product design team in crafting elegant, immersive experiences for buyers and sellers, ensuring that our live platform is not just functional, but alluring and intuitive. You will set the vision for critical and foundational customer touchpoints across our platform. You will work side-by-side with executive leaders across Product, Engineering, and Business to drive alignment and deliver innovative, industry-leading solutions. You will lead and coach multi-faceted design teams, set ambitious strategic goals, develop Product Design talent, and champion operational excellence and organizational health.

This role requires thought leadership in design, innovation, extraordinary collaboration, and an ability to translate business priorities into impactful, end-to-end experiences for our customers. You’ll be a key partner in shaping the future of eBay’s platform, driving exceptional outcomes for the business and its customers.

What you will accomplish:

  • Leads a team of Product Designers within a product vertical, ensuring a cohesive and future-proof user experience across the portfolio.

  • Establishes the strategic direction and vision for the product area, aligning with organizational priorities and influencing cross-functional partners at the Director+ level.

  • Owns and drives the execution of high-impact design initiatives, delivering scalable and innovative solutions that set industry standards.

  • Identifies and champions areas of strategic investment to advance the company’s top priorities, balancing customer needs with business objectives.

  • Develops and implements processes and methodologies to optimize team output, improve collaboration, and ensure operational excellence.

  • Acts as an inspiring leader, providing strategic feedback at the organizational and executive level to shape the direction of the business and design strategy.

  • Cultivates a culture of growth, inclusivity, and excellence, ensuring that all team members can bring their authentic selves to work and achieve their full potential.

  • Leads team and organizational initiatives to improve talent acquisition, onboarding, and professional development practices for the Product Design team.

  • Creates networks and processes to help teams share work, ideas, and insights openly and efficiently across the organization.

  • Inspires cross-functional partners to think strategically and deliver innovative solutions that drive measurable outcomes for customers and the business.

What you will bring:

  • 12+ years of professional experience in Product Design, including significant experience in leadership roles managing and coaching Product Design teams.

  • Demonstrated expertise in crafting and driving high-level design strategies for complex, end-to-end systems and experiences.

  • A portfolio showcasing innovative, impactful product design work across web, mobile, and emerging platforms.

  • Proven ability to align cross-functional teams, drive product innovation through research and data, and deliver measurable business results.

  • Deep understanding of user-centered design principles, systems thinking, and design operations, with a track record of navigating ambiguity and influencing strategic priorities.

  • Strong communication skills to articulate vision, build alignment, and foster collaboration, supported by a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience.
