Job Overview

As an At Your Service (AYS) / PBX Operator, you’ll provide a central communication point for the hotel by answering all incoming phone calls in a friendly and professional manner. You will support both guest needs and internal operations, ensuring smooth communication across all hotel departments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answer calls promptly and professionally, using established scripts and standards. Route calls accurately to the appropriate department or individual.

  • Provide guests with local directions and accurate information about hotel services and amenities.

  • Act as the central communications point during emergencies; follow all safety and security procedures, including contacting local emergency services if needed.

  • Maintain accurate records of all registered guests and provide wake-up call services.

  • Accurately record messages and promptly notify guests or hotel employees.

  • Respond to in-house guest concerns or complaints professionally and follow approved service recovery procedures.

  • Notify management of malfunctioning telephone equipment or other communication systems.

  • Operate the in-house paging system and act as a communication link between Security, Maintenance, and other departments.

  • Stay informed of group activity, VIP arrivals, and special events to support hotel operations.

  • Record incoming packages, mail, or faxes and notify guests or departments in a timely manner.

  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.

  • Perform other duties as assigned, adhering to all Company and Marriott Brand Standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; some customer service experience required.

  • Minimum of six months experience as a phone or switchboard operator preferred.

  • Fluency in English required; additional languages are an asset.

  • Strong communication, listening, and organizational skills.

  • Basic computer skills and keyboarding required.

  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating the phone and computer.

  • Ability to speak, listen, and type simultaneously.

  • Moving about the hotel as required.

  • Frequent communication with guests, callers, and staff.

Other

  • Reading and writing abilities are frequently utilized to complete logs, messages, and departmental records.

  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
