About this role

Do you have strong analytical ability and financial expertise, combined with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills and the capacity for strategic thinking to support sound commercial decision-making?

Within the Highways Department, it is our role to keep people moving safely and our work touches the lives of virtually all residents and visitors within the county. 

As Senior Cost Controller, you will provide commercial expertise to the Contracts Management Group. You will manage and deliver contract and commercial processes to support the day-to-day administration of the contract. You will review and assess prices for works and services on the highway and monitor expenditure for allocated works and budget areas. Additionally, you will act as the point of contact with the contractor and stakeholders for the day-to-day management of contract and commercial processes on key projects.

Our offices are based at Ringmer Depot and County Hall, Lewes but our hybrid working arrangements allow for a mix of working from home and office based throughout the week.

We are looking for candidates who have:
  • Contract administration and commercial skills
  • Experience of assessing and delivering value for money solutions
  • Proven project management and negotiating skills
  • Interpersonal, communication and presentational skills as well as ability to use negotiating and influencing skills
