About The Role:

To define and drive the long-term strategy to aggressively grow the JP business. This role will play an important voice at the leadership table, providing a strong and challenging influence across the entire market leadership team bringing thought leadership and energy to challenge their market’s sales strategies by continuously developing new and existing channel alternatives.  The incumbent will need to navigate the early ambiguity they will face whilst establishing the positioning, ways of working and ongoing rhythm of the role to champion for the direct approach.

To be successful the role must provide powerful cross-functional leadership and influence. They will have a small, focused team of direct reports reporting into them, but achievement of the direct agenda will be largely dependent on them collaborating closely with all functions within the market (Customer Services, Marketing, Trade Marketing & Demand Planning, Logistics, etc) and leading delivery via a virtual, ‘dotted line’ team, sharing ownership for driving the overall performance, success and profitability of their market’s business.

Key responsibilities

  • Commercial focus with responsibility for sales, strategy and roadmap for Retail channel as part of Dyson’s omni-channel strategy; sell in/out and delivering performance per key P&L metrics:
  • Full profit accountability for the retail sales business
  • Drive effective strategies that optimise retail opportunities and Dyson profitably in line total market goals.
  • Responsible for delivering monthly sales volumes, collaborating with supply chain and communicating to the management team and wider business any changes to budget, target or latest estimate.
  • Working with Marketing and Finance to plan and execute below the line investments to deliver the best return on investment.
  • Leading the planning and execution of our new product launches with key customers.
  • Bring cohesive leadership to the retail sales team: Inspire, lead and motivate the team through regular feedbacks, 1:1s, Personal Development Plans (PDP) and objectives.
  • Placing customer experience at the heart at all processes and decisions.
  • Manage processes to ensure that the team is as effective as possible to meet business goals.
  • Identifies gaps in knowledge and skills in the team and builds appropriate training solutions.
  • Develops talent and succession plans.
  • Lead the controlled retail strategy through the Retail Development and Activation function:
  • Monitor the ROI of all Expert & Stylist programmes.
  • Ensure all experts are trained to the highest level and standards are maintained across the network.
  • Work cross-functionally and collaboratively with Marketing and the e-commerce teams to ensure that plans are connected and integrated. Work closely with Group Retail and Group Commercial teams to ensure that the customer experience consistently executed across all portfolios.
  • Conduct regular meetings with key contacts within the trade to ensure customer account plans are on track.
  • Annual top to top meetings between Dyson senior personnel and key customers.
  • Lead account team for all major trading agreements and subsequent negotiations with customers
  • Work effectively with key functions in Dyson to promote the sales objectives.

About You:

  • Experience in retail sales businesses (15+ years).
  • Managing in a matrix culture
  • Commercial sales would need to be coupled with experience of premium brand, beyond pure retail trading.
  • Can credibly understand and lead retail infrastructure, e.g. logistics, warehousing, property portfolio management, supporting IT platforms, etc.
  • General management’ capabilities to direct activities across a broad range of different disciplines (e.g. negotiating contracts, managing properties, practicalities of implementing direct strategies both physically and digitally)
  • A challenger, with entrepreneurial outlook and behaviors; energized by thinking differently, not being constrained by classic ‘rules’; critically evaluates and ‘fights’ the system.
  • Gets a clear buzz from driving and delivering change.
