Position Summary

This role serves as the primary on-camera personality for Duke Energy’s social media content, creating content (primarily shot on camera phone) that humanizes the brand and makes complex energy topics accessible. This role will travel to facilities and storm-impacted areas to capture authentic storytelling opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary on-camera personality across social media platforms, create content creator-style videos, demystifying energy topics and humanizing the brand (This person will need extensive knowledge of TikTok and Instagram)

  • Develop video content from concept to completion, including storyboard, self-recording videos, and editing using in-app tools, third party social tools (ex. CapCut) and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Travel to power plants and other facilities to capture behind-the-scenes content, virtual ‘come with me’ tours and company events

  • Serve as Joint Information Center storm correspondent, creating storm update videos as needed and editing ‘from the field’ footage from communicators (Role activated for prolonged storms)

  • Monitor social media trends to identify participation opportunities

  • Manage PNG social media calendar and support content development

  • Share community management responsibilities

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or other related degree AND six (6) years minimum related experience

  • In lieu of degree(s) and experience listed above, High School/GED AND eight (8) years minimum related experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately using written and verbal communications.

  • Expertise in developing and implementing high-risk communications plans.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills to work efficiently and effectively with clients, teammates, and management.

  • Expertise in media relations, serving as a spokesperson on high-risk issues. This work includes strategy and message development and maintaining reporter relationships.

  • Experience working with senior levels of management and providing executive counsel and coaching for media interviews, presentations/speeches.

  • Experience representing the company externally with challenging audiences in challenging situations.

  • Speechwriting experience.

  • Ability to participate in/lead crisis management response.

  • Previous energy industry experience.

  • Experience in providing communications counsel and advice to executives.

  • Accredited in public relations (APR).

  • Experience in public affairs, government affairs and policy issues.

  • Experience mentoring teammates and peers.

  • Extensive crisis communications experience.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel, as well as SharePoint.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility

  • 3 days in office; flexible
