Position Summary

The Lake Services Representative I (LS Rep I) is an entry-level position with stepwise progression to LS Rep II within one to two years following demonstrated proficiency in all areas of responsibility. Depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy. Duke Energy owns 39 reservoirs in North and South Carolina which were built decades ago to support hydropower, fossil and/or nuclear-fueled generation. These reservoirs continue to support existing and planned future power generation assets, and their importance to the surrounding communities has grown significantly over time. Many of these reservoirs support varying levels of uses by lake neighbors as well as regional needs for public recreation, water supply, wastewater assimilation and economic growth.

Responsibilities

  • The LS Rep I is responsible for managing those often competing uses in accordance with established policies and processes aimed at compliance with regulatory requirements, minimizing corporate risks and protecting shared water supplies, the environment and sensitive resources. The LS Rep I must carry out their responsibilities in a manner that fosters key relationships with both internal and external organizations, stakeholders and resource management agencies.

  • The LS Rep I position is largely externally facing and must communicate with many different types of people in ways that reflect well on Duke Energy, especially since in many cases, interactions with Lake Services will be the only interactions lake users have with Duke Energy.

  • This LS Rep I position will be part of the LS North team, which has shoreline management responsibility for reservoirs in the mountains of western North Carolina, the Catawba-Wateree lakes from Lake James downstream through Lake Norman and for several steam station reservoirs including Belews Lake, Hyco Lake, Mayo Lake, Harris Lake and Lake Sutton. The LS Rep I will process lake use permit requests and shoreline lease requests, respond to various inquiries from lake neighbors and users and support other teams (e.g., Recreation Management team) during periods of high demand. The LS Rep I will also be responsible for:

  • Inspecting lake facilities including marinas and private facilities to ensure they are being properly maintained.

  • Working with the Duke Energy Legal Department to ensure compliance issues are resolved in a timely manner.

  • Processing requests for new and expanded marinas, water intakes, bridge and utility line crossings, and wastewater outfalls.

  • This position is home-based in Charlotte, N.C and will have a mobility classification of Field Worker, with the expectation of working from the General Office at least one day per week (more frequently during the initial training period). Schedules will be set by supervision.
