We are seeking an experienced HR Payroll & Compliance Lead to provide subject-matter expertise across payroll systems, compliance, and governance. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring payroll accuracy, legislative compliance, and risk mitigation across a large, complex organisation operating under Enterprise Agreements and Awards.


You will lead the technical assessment of payroll compliance and remediation initiatives, oversee offshore payroll operations, and act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders across Payroll, HR, Employment Relations, Compliance, and Internal Audit.


This role suits a highly analytical payroll professional who thrives in complexity, enjoys deep technical problem-solving, and takes pride in delivering compliant, accurate, and auditable payroll outcomes.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:




  • Act as SME for payroll systems and payroll compliance




  • Lead payroll compliance and remediation initiatives aligned to EBAs, Awards, and legislation




  • Ensure accurate wage, tax, and superannuation calculations




  • Oversee and mentor offshore payroll operations to meet Australian compliance standards




  • Monitor legislative changes and implement updates promptly




  • Conduct payroll, HR process, and system audits to identify compliance risks




  • Develop and maintain HR and payroll compliance frameworks and documentation




  • Partner with Payroll, ER, Compliance, Audit, and senior stakeholders




  • Resolve payroll queries and discrepancies efficiently and accurately



About You:

You are detail-driven, confident navigating complex industrial instruments, and comfortable operating at both strategic and technical levels. You bring credibility as a payroll compliance expert and are known for your ability to translate complexity into clear, compliant outcomes.




Skills & Experience




  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or similar




  • 5–7+ years’ experience in a complex payroll role within a large organisation




  • Deep knowledge of:




    • Australian payroll legislation




    • Tax and superannuation requirements




    • Enterprise Agreements and Award interpretation






  • Strong experience with payroll and time & attendance systems




    • Kronos experience highly desirable






  • Advanced analytical capability with strong Excel skills




  • High attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy and integrity




  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including with senior leaders




  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines




  • Proficient across Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
