About this role

Purpose of this position 

The Manager, Business Development will provide direct support for the Business Development Department initiatives. This position will collaborate with the VP, Business Development and provide support leadership on strategic growth and expansion of the Canadian Ports and Terminals and Freight Forwarding and Logistics businesses.  The position will support the growth and advancement of the business pipeline, execute and refine the First Nations strategy in Canada, and develop and deepen key external and internal relationships that drive business growth. 

In this role you will:

  • Support the development and execution of comprehensive business development strategies and roadmaps for business growth and expansion

  • Build, track, and report on the business development pipeline

  • Support negotiation and management of leases and agreements

  • Prepare regular status reports for senior leadership, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommended actions
  • Convert data into impactful visualizations to generate actionable insights

  • Develop clear, concise, and visually engaging written and graphical communications to support business development initiatives and presentations.

  • Develop and manage project plans, budgets, and timelines in collaboration with cross-functional teams

  • Monitor project progress, ensuring compliance with approved financial and operational targets

  • Identify potential risks and issues that may impact business operations; implement mitigation strategies as required

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential growth opportunities and ensure alignment with broader organizational goals

  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, customers and First Nations

  • Collaborate with Regional and Head Office teams on Canada business growth opportunities 

  • Partner with Government Relations and Marketing initiatives to advance business growth

 

What you bring to this role:  

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce,  Marketing, Science or Engineering, or a related technical field

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in business development

  • Experience developing infrastructure projects

  • Experience in negotiating and providing strategic direction to large, complex public/private organizations

  • Experience working with and providing advisory support for the development of major projects in the ports, terminals and transportation and resource development and supply chain sectors in Canada. 

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder and partner relationships including business leaders, elected officials, government bureaucrats, and First Nation economic development leaders. 

  • Experience in Indigenous engagement

  • Understanding and working knowledge of Canadian Indigenous history, culture, policy and law. 

  • Knowledge of regional cultural and business practices of BC First Nations. 

  • Understanding of Federal and Provincial regulations related to environmental and operational permitting for major infrastructure projects. 

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail. 

  • Experience creating comprehensive status reports and presentations for senior leadership. 

  • Proficiency in Excel 

  • Experience with data visualization and analysis tools is an asset

  • Fluent in English.  French and or Spanish an asset. 

  • Previous Canadian work experience or experience working directly with Canadian industries.
