Under the general direction of the IT manager, the Senior System Administrator designs, installs, configures, troubleshoots, and resolves complex system issues. Working with minimal supervision, this position helps build, grow, and shape the organization's needs through independent and collaborative work across the company, and mentors and teaches junior staff.

 

This is an in-person position located in Fairbanks or Anchorage, Alaska.

Starting salary range: $112,635.00 - $116,389.00 DOE 

 

What you will do

  • Strategize, manage, and maintain Windows and Linux servers, workstations, Microsoft Cloud Solutions: Azure/InTune/Entra/Purview, and other O365 environments.
  • Install new, and rebuild existing, servers, configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with best practices, security, standards, project, and operational requirements.
  • Support information technology and operations technology system design, deployment, and maintenance in alignment with information security standards to mitigate risk exposure.
  • Evaluate, recommend and install new software releases and system upgrades, direct, test, evaluate software patches.
  • Recommend solutions and configurations based on best practices; document and review current environment, manage and implement hardware & software based monitoring, environmental monitoring and notifications.
  • Investigate and complete root cause analysis on software & hardware related issues and outages.
  • Maintain data files and monitor system configurations to ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
  • Perform system backups and recovery; test disaster recovery, data restoration, and business continuity at given intervals.
  • Lead the organization’s hypervisor and system virtualization installation, maintenance, planning, implementation, and upgrades.
  • Oversee, troubleshoot, and direct maintenance of workstation hardware, operating systems, applications, patching, and upgrades. Create and maintain a gold image for operating systems for IT and OT; coordinate with Cyber Security to implement patching schedules and STIG compliance for hardware and software.
  • Manage and maintain domain policies (GPO), troubleshoot tier 2+ issues.
  • Proactively monitor and resolve information system environment problems/incidents including hardware, software, and security related issues both on-prem and cloud deployed.
  • Document all changes, change requests, standard operating procedures (SOPs), system installs, review and close tickets.
  • Dedicated and willing to support a 24x7 critical infrastructure environment, including routine, on-call, and emergency support.
  • Learn, adopt, and apply safety programs.


Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, or related field, or a combination of education and relevant experience may be substituted at a 2:1 ratio (e.g. two years of education equals one year of experience) Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • 10+ years of Information Technology experience. Required
  • 5+ years Experience with hypervisor systems, servers, and services (VMWare/Nutanix/Hyper-V/Citrix, SaaS, etc) Required
  • 5+ years Experience with Cloud/IaaS/PaaS solutions and services Preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal communication and instructions. (required proficiency)
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team. (required proficiency)
  • Ability to create and document SOPs that include daily activities and best practices. (required proficiency)
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all matters. (required proficiency)
