JOB SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager, the employee will be responsible for moderately complex accounting activities in an accurate and timely manner for multiple companies.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct moderately complex studies; develop and recommend accounting methods and procedures
  • Develop and manipulate complex accounting spreadsheets
  • Work closely with operations to ensure all business activity is posted correctly and in a timely manner
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and operating reports for distribution to management and other personnel
  • Work closely with other departments to collect and enter budgetary data and reforecast information
  • Responsible for credit card account reconciliation and close-out
  • Review budget-to-actual reports for unusual variances
  • Review and verify the accuracy of adjusting journal entries
  • Responsible for general ledger account reconciliation
  • Balance intercompany accounts between Doyon Limited and assigned subsidiaries
  • Perform various cash functions such as on-line banking and bank reconciliations
  • Assist in projecting cash flow needs weekly
  • Record portfolio investment activity
  • Prepare reports to State of Alaska for investments in oil & gas leases
  • Assist in coordinating, and preparing for, the annual Doyon Limited financial audit
  • Work closely with tax personnel to provide detailed information as needed
  • Provide backup to other functions such as payroll and accounts payable
  • Provide accounting oversight and advice to subsidiary accounting staff and management
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy
  • Document and explain complex accounting transactions
  • Meet deadlines, organize work materials, and manage time effectively
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Attendance of continuing education initiatives, including a limited number of events each year requiring overnight travel, may be required

SUPERVISION:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in accounting (substitutable with 3-5 years of accounting experience)
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of computerized and manual accounting systems
  • Experience with construction related cost accounting practices
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Experience with union and government contracts

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities.
