About the Role

Downer is seeking skilled Heavy Diesel Mechanics, Technicians, or Fitters to join our team in Mackay, QLD. This hybrid role offers the best of both worlds: workshop-based maintenance and the variety of field service. One day you’ll be in the workshop, the next you’ll be on site diagnosing faults and keeping projects moving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, repair, and maintain heavy plant machinery and trucks
  • Diagnose and resolve breakdowns in the field
  • Ensure all work meets Downer’s high safety and operational standards
  • Work collaboratively within a skilled team while also operating independently

 

About You

  • Trade qualification in Heavy Diesel Mechanics, Plant Mechanics, or Fitting (essential)
  • Strong hydraulic knowledge and diagnostic skills
  • Experience with mobile plant, trucks, and heavy equipment
  • Auto electrical experience (highly regarded)
  • HR and Forklift licences (desirable)
  • A proactive approach and commitment to safety
