The opportunity
Downer’s Energy & Utilities business is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Trade Coach & Internal Auditor to join our team supporting the North West and East – Central Contract. This diverse position is pivotal in ensuring the highest standards of technical performance, safety, and compliance across our electrical distribution operations. You’ll play a key role in mentoring field crews, delivering technical training, and conducting internal audits to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
This is a full-time permanent opportunity that will involve regular travel to sites and alternate office locations therefore this role can be based out of Whanganui, Hawera or New Plymouth.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a trade-qualified professional with a strong background in electrical distribution or maintenance contracting. You’ll bring:
- Proven experience in coaching or mentoring technical teams
- A deep understanding of electrical network construction and maintenance
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, codes of practice, and electrical standards
- Excellent communication, observation, and reporting skills
- Proficiency with audit tools, reporting software, and digital training platforms
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with high attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering training sessions and on-site coaching to field staff
- Facilitating onboarding for new trade staff
- Conducting routine and ad hoc audits of field work and processes
- Preparing audit reports and monitoring corrective actions
- Engaging with stakeholders including supervisors, project managers, and client representatives
