The location in Nekoosa, (Wisconsin, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Manager, Paper Mill. This job is full-time permanent.

 

The responsibility of this role is to direct and lead operating performance for the Paper Mill Department, including safety, environmental, quality, cost control, productivity, and employee relations and engagement. This position reports directly to the Mill Manager.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Safety, environmental and quality leadership: Champion safety, environmental stewardship and quality across the mill’s operating team. Develop, implement, and monitor goals and action plans in collaboration with other mill leaders. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and cost efficiency.
  • Team leadership and development: Lead, motivate, and support a high-performing team in a demanding environment. Oversee succession planning, career development programs, and problem resolution for all direct reports.
  • Performance management: Establish clear performance expectations, assist teams in achieving goals, and hold them accountable for delivering results.
  • Mission and vision alignment: Promote awareness of Nekoosa’s Mission, Vision, and Playbook through communications, meetings, and training programs.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting: Support teams in evaluating and resolving operational issues by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Budget and cost management: Conduct budget reviews, manage cost improvement plans, and analyze financial data to optimize profitability.
  • Strategic planning: Engage in long-term planning to create initiatives that advance mill goals and position the mill for maximum profitability.
  • Operations metrics management: Oversee data collection and reporting to achieve productivity targets, reduce unit costs, eliminate errors, and ensure quality performance.
  • Strategy execution: Drive execution in all areas of the business unit, ensuring accountability for results.
  • Plant floor presence: Maintain visibility on the plant floor, fostering two-way communication with employees.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate goals, performance, and results to peers, superiors, and corporate stakeholders.
  • Capital planning: Lead annual and long-term capital planning processes, championing critical projects for the department.
  • Financial Acumen: Understand the drivers of business results and develop goals for the team that reduce costs and maximize results for the mill and Domtar.
  • New product development: Provide guidance to new product development team to manipulate machine operations to achieve desired output.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Paper Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.).
  • 10 years of experience in Paper Machines operations.
  • 10 years of leadership experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Proven expertise in continuous improvement principles and techniques.
  • Experience with unions and labor relations.
