The Transportation Analyst plays a vital role in supporting Dollar General’s Outbound Transportation operations. This position is responsible for analyzing data, generating reports, optimizing transportation activities in support of store projects, leading cross functional analytical projects, and supporting claims efforts. This dynamic role requires strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills to support Dollar General’s mission of serving others.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Reporting & Analytics (40%)
• Develop, maintain, and distribute transportation related reporting including service level metrics, delivery assets, asset protection, and other Key Performance Indicators.
• Analyze transportation data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Collaborate with IT and other internal departments to enhance reporting tools and systems.
• Use data visualization tools to create and communicate business insights to leadership.
Logistics Planning – Store Projects (40%)
• New Stores – Work closely with Supply Chain, IT, Global Inventory, and other cross functional teams to define new store order schedules and ensure deliveries are made timely and accurate
• Store Remodels and Relocations – Design, communicate, and execute the order and delivery schedules to minimize operational disruptions around projects; collaborate with project managers, Store Operations, and carriers to facilitate timely deliveries and returns
• Store Inventory Projects - Partner with Inventory Accounting and Store Operations to optimize order and delivery schedules around projects; support project requirements while minimizing costs and disruptions
Projects & Initiatives (15%)
• Participate in cross-functional transportation and supply chain projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, cost savings, and process improvement.
• Conduct research, provide data-driven insights, and contribute to project planning and execution.
Claims (5%)
• Process and analyze claims related to transportation issues, including damaged or lost goods.
• Collaborate with carriers and internal teams to resolve claims efficiently and recover costs when applicable.
• Maintain accurate records of claims and generate reports to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools (e.g. Excel, Power BI)
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and a focus on continuous improvement.
• Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) or related tools is a plus.
Work Experience &/or Education:
• Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Business Analytics or a related field preferred.
• Experience with data tools preferred (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Power BI)
