About this role

To provide evaluation, assessment, and mental health counseling services to students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide triage to students as needed and timely in-person counseling for urgent cases, and schedule appointments for future counseling sessions.

  2. Offer counseling services through a multicultural framework and provide multimodal treatment and interventions for emerging young children. Modalities include didactic/experiential group interventions, group psychotherapy, individual counseling, consultation, and crisis intervention. Counseling should take into account the students’ sociocultural backgrounds, family and community networks, and individual coping strategies. Adaptation of practical, action-oriented, short-term, and solution-focused approaches from an eco-systemic perspective consistent with Chinese culture should be considered.

  3. Provide oversight of part-time counselors from off-campus counseling services.

  4. Develop self-help classes or online materials addressing stress management, homesickness, coping with anxiety, time management, and test-taking anxiety.

  5. Develop campus intervention protocols for dealing with mental health emergencies.

  6. Conduct training and preventive mental health education for faculty, staff, and students; serve as a consultant to campus faculty and staff.

  7. Share on-call duties for any health emergencies.

  8. Maintain confidential student mental health records.

  9. Perform other tasks related to counseling as assigned.

  10. Undertake any additional work assigned by the supervisor.



Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor degree in Social Work, Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or in other related mental health counseling degree programs.

• At least 5 years relevant working experience.

• Preferably experience working in an international school environment.

• Good computer skills-including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook.

• Good level of written and spoken English is preferred.

• Confidence in working with a rich cultural mix of students and teachers.
