We are currently seeking a highly motivated Senior UNIX Systems Administrator to join our IT Operations Team at the Digicel Khalsa office, reporting to the Manager UNIX Operations. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growth and innovation!

 

The Senior UNIX System Administrator is responsible for the administration, optimization, and support of enterprise UNIX/Linux environments across the Digicel Pacific Hub. The role involves managing system operations, ensuring reliability, performance, and security, and supporting infrastructure projects and initiatives aligned with organizational strategy. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional IT teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver high availability and resilient IT services.

 

Core responsibilities:  

1. System Administration & Operations

  • Manage and maintain UNIX/Linux servers, DNS, and hosting environments for HUB markets.
  • Ensure high system availability, performance tuning, and optimization across platforms.
  • Perform system backups, patch management, and capacity planning.
  • Troubleshoot incidents, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement permanent fixes.
  • Conduct periodic system audits, user access reviews, and compliance checks.

 

2. Implementation & Projects

  • Deploy new UNIX/Linux systems as part of IT initiatives and strategic projects.
  • Support integration and migration projects across virtual and physical environments.
  • Maintain configuration documentation, architecture diagrams, and runbooks.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure smooth implementation and operational readiness.

 

3. Security & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain system hardening standards aligned with IT security policies.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity teams to remediate vulnerabilities and enforce compliance.
  • Monitor system logs, alerts, and audit trails to identify potential threats and anomalies.
  • Manage system privileges and access controls for all users and administrators.
  • Managing & supporting internal & External Audits

 

4. Monitoring, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Utilize monitoring and configuration management tools to track infrastructure health.
  • Generate and present regular reports on system uptime, incidents, and performance metrics.
  • Drive automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and best practices in system administration.

 

5. Collaboration & Vendor Management

  • Coordinate with hardware and software vendors for maintenance and issue resolution.
  • Work closely with network, storage, and application teams to ensure end-to-end system reliability.
  • Support CAPEX/OPEX planning for UNIX-related initiatives and upgrades.
  • Mentor junior administrators and contribute to a high-performing team culture.

 

Academic qualifications, Experience & Skills required for this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in UNIX/Linux administration in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HPE, SUN, Dell, EMC, Hitachi servers & storage devices
  • Proven expertise in Red Hat, Solaris, VMware, and other virtualization platforms.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds) & automation tool like Ansible
  • Sound understanding of backup management, DNS, networking, and scripting (Shell/Python).
  • Working knowledge of system hardening, patching, and cybersecurity controls.
  • Experience in cloud or hybrid UNIX environments and familiar with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exposure to project management and ITIL-based service management processes.
