Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Excellence SME to drive/support standardization, capability upliftment, and process excellence across India Engineering and Capex teams. This role is pivotal in building a world-class engineering system that ensures efficient, predictable, and high-quality delivery of E2E capital projects—greenfield, brownfield, expansion, utilities, packaging, and process engineering.

The SME will support the transformation of engineering ways of working by creating/enabling standards, tools, templates, and governance mechanisms, while building technical depth across the engineering community.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Engineering Excellence & Standardization

  • Lead the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of engineering standards, specifications, checklists, and templates (FEL, design basis, URS, FAT/SAT, commissioning, handover, etc.).
  • Develop standardized Capex processes (idea to commissioning) with a focus on simplification, transparency, and faster decision-making.
  • Create reference designs, modular layouts, and technical playbooks for utilities, process, packaging, and infrastructure systems.
  • Establish and maintain engineering governance frameworks including stage gates, risk reviews, quality requirements, and audit protocols.

2. Tools, Systems & Digitization

  • Develop digital tools for cost estimation, schedule templates, vendor evaluation, project reporting, and performance benchmarking.
  • Support implementation of Industry 4.0 / digital engineering solutions (digital twins, simulations, remote FAT, predictive analytics).
  • Build and maintain a library of best practices, standards, and lessons learnt.

3. Capability Building Across India Engineering Teams

  • Design and execute an annual capability roadmap for engineering teams (design engineering, packaging, projects, utilities).
  • Deliver training on engineering fundamentals, Capex excellence, project controls, safety in design, and commissioning excellence.
  • Coach cross-functional teams on problem solving, RCA, FMEA, and value engineering.

4. Technical Leadership & SME Support

  • Act as the internal SME for engineering excellence across packaging, utilities, process equipment, layouts, and Capex delivery.
  • Support project teams during FEL, design reviews, vendor selection, FAT/SAT, commissioning audits, and readiness assessments.
  • Evaluate new technologies, automation solutions, and engineering approaches that improve efficiency, operability, sustainability, and lifecycle cost.

5. Stakeholder & Governance Management

  • Partner with operations, procurement, finance, EHS, quality, and site engineering teams to ensure alignment and execution discipline.
  • Lead cross-functional workshops to drive simplification, value engineering, and best-practice replication.
  • Provide transparent reporting to senior leadership on Capex process health, compliance, risks, and improvement opportunities.

6. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain comprehensive and updated engineering libraries—design packages, specifications, vendor standards, checklists, risk templates.
  • Ensure Capex processes comply with statutory requirements, internal controls, engineering governance, and audit frameworks.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Production Engineering.
  • Certifications in Project Management, Lean, Six Sigma, or Engineering Standards Development preferred.

Experience

  • 3–5 years post B.E. in engineering, Capex, packaging, utilities, or project excellence roles in FMCG, beverages, food, or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Engineering standardization or design governance.
    • Capex excellence or PMO for multi-site engineering projects.
    • Creating technical specifications, layouts, templates, and engineering tools.
    • Supporting large-scale Capex programs across locations (preferred).

Key Skills

  • Expertise in standards creation, engineering governance, and process simplification.
  • Skilled in problem solving, RCA, FMEA, value engineering.
  • Working knowledge of Lean/TPM and Industry 4.0 in engineering and manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project/Primavera, SAP/ERP, and digital engineering tools.
