<p><b><span class="emphasis">Job Overview</span></b></p><p>GENERAL SUMMARY:</p><p>Under the general direction of Energy Plant Operations and Maintenance Supervisor. The Energy Plant Technician, monitors and operates the Energy plant cooling, heating, and other utility related systems to ensure a continued supply of services to users; assists in monitoring and operating the Energy Plaza computer control systems.</p><p></p><p>PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p><ul><li>Assists to start-up, operate and shutdown mechanical, electrical, and other energy production systems such as gas/oil fired boilers, chillers, motors, generators, pumps, switchgear, and computer peripheral equipment.</li><li>Under direct supervision, monitors and operates district-cooling centrifugal chillers and associated support/distribution systems, district-heating steam boilers and associated support/distribution systems, potable water pump stations, reclaimed water pump station, sanitary sewer lift stations, stormwater pretreatment plant, source isolation deicing systems, and electrical distribution systems up to 25kV.</li><li>Detects malfunctions in equipment by routine and regular plant inspections, recommend corrective actions, and notifies the appropriate personnel.</li><li>Assists in the operation of the computer console to monitor and control utility related systems, observes deviation from norms and takes corrective action or makes the appropriate notifications.</li><li>Assists in performing chemical analysis on boiler feedwater, condensate, condenser water, chilled water, hot water, and potable water systems.</li><li>Briefs the Senior Energy Plant Operations and Maintenance Technician on shift regarding the operations status of plant and other utility related systems including actual or potential limitations.</li><li>Compiles operational data and maintains logs and computer printouts for management and operations staff reviews; communicates reportable events and equipment status to oncoming shift employees.</li></ul><p></p><ul><li>Assists with the maintenance of the utility plants, control room, tunnels; and performs light to moderate maintenance on equipment and systems.</li><li>Assists the Environmental Affairs Department in performing field observations of Airport activities with respect to potential environmental issues and notifies the Environmental Affairs Department of any observations that may have environmental impact.</li></ul><p></p><p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</p><ul><li>Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.</li><li>Two (2) years of industrial power plant operations, maintenance, or related field experience involving, high pressure boilers, electrical generators and/or distribution systems, industrial chilled water/HVAC systems, and/or chemical water treatment and purification systems; OR</li><li>Formal training in one of the following industrial trades: Electrical systems. ,HVAC. Plumbing. Welding, pipefitting, or millwright work.</li><li>Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.</li><li>Must pass a medical physical examination.</li><li>Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.</li></ul><p></p><p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p><ul><li>Basic knowledge or possess the ability of a high mechanical aptitude to operate or perform maintenance of chillers, pumps, industrial heating, or air conditioning systems.</li><li>Basic knowledge hazards and safety precautions applicable to working in an industrial environment.</li><li>Ability to learn to operate a computer control console, analyze alarms and take corrective action.</li><li>Knowledge of networking basics.</li><li>Ability to work rotating shift assignments.</li><li>Skill in the use and care of assigned tools and equipment.</li><li>Ability to use personal computers and applications software such as Microsoft Office.</li><li>Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.</li><li>Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, drawings.</li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious internal and external working relationships.</li><li>Ability to be cross trained in different areas as required.</li></ul><p></p><p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p><ul><li>Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.</li><li>This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.</li><li>This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport’s Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.</li><li>Must successfully complete Energy Plaza Operator Technician Program within nine (9) months from date of hire.</li></ul><p></p><p>EFFORT:</p><ul><li>Works in an industrial plant environment.</li><li>Works with solvents, paints, water treatment chemicals and other chemicals.</li><li>Operates hand tools, power tools, stationary tools, and test equipment.</li><li>Frequently performs work in high temperatures and a noisy environment.</li><li>Frequently exerts forces equivalent to lifting to 50 pounds and occasionally exerts forces equivalent to lifting to 100 pounds.</li><li>Climbs ladders and stairs.</li><li>Works in awkward positions such as stooping, squatting, or with arms above the head for extended periods.</li><li>Uses keyboard devices and computer monitors.</li><li>Utilizes near vision acuity in reading reports, diagrams, and schematics.</li><li>Uses far vision acuity in surveying plant equipment for defects and malfunctions.</li><li>Uses normal color perception in working with electrical schematics and wiring.</li><li>Listens for PA system warnings; listens for high-pitched warning of steam leaking.</li><li>Walks and stands for prolonged periods.</li><li>During emergency situations, works for long periods under stress.</li><li>Drives to locations on and off of Airport property.</li></ul><ul></ul><p></p><p></p><p style="text-align:left"><span class="emphasis"><b><b><b>About Us</b></b></b></span></p><p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p style="text-align:left"><span><span>We are Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW) Airport-one of the most successful airports in the world by any definition.
