Job Description

Dewberry has an excellent opportunity for a part-time Principal Mechanical Engineer to serve as a technical mechanical and electrical specialist for pump station, gate, dam, and levee projects nationally. The successful candidate will serve in a technical design leadership role for various projects, leading designs where appropriate, or serving in a senior technical oversight role for delivery of stormwater, flood control, and municipal water/wastewater pumping system projects as well as providing technical advisory oversight of dam, levee, and gate projects.

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead multi-disciplined teams of professionals on flood resilience design projects with a primary focus on mechanical/electrical design leadership in pumping systems and gate projects.
  • Candidate should be able to oversee engineering analysis; preliminary and detailed designs of stormwater and flood control facilities; and develop specifications and construction documents.
  • If required, serve as Engineer of Record on stormwater and flood control design projects.
  • Manage, lead, execute, and/or provide technical support for resilience, water resources, and hazard mitigation projects within the municipal, regional, and Federal markets.
  • Communicate with clients, establish goals and objectives for project teams, and schedule and coordinate resources to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the performance expectations of the client.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • BS or MS degree (with an emphasis in Mechanical Engineering, Water Resources, or Civil/Environmental Engineering).
  • At least 15 years of experience on stormwater and flood resilience engineering projects.
  • Professional Engineer License, or ability to obtain reciprocity in various states.
  • Knowledge of USACE, FEMA, AWWA standards and procedures for design.
  • Candidate must have strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Experience using ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation is preferred
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamic modeling programs such as PC-SWMM, MIKE, HEC-RAS and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), is a plus.
  • Extensive experience as Engineer of Record on stormwater and flood control pump station projects.
  • Knowledge of U.S Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program and/or State/local programs that design and construct pump stations
  • Ability and willingness to travel, as appropriate and necessary, for successful delivery of project workload.
