Position Description:

The Mental Health Counselor will provide evidence based therapeutic interventions and services to children and their families which will enable them to deal with a range of behavioral and emotional problems identified. The Mental Health Counselor will also provide intakes, assessments, individual, and family counseling in-home, in-office, at designated school campuses in the Houston area, community or virtual settings.  The Mental Health Counselor may also work in collaboration with community partners to provide these services.

Experience/Skills Required:

  • Master’s in social work or related human services field.
  • Fully licensed as an LMSW; or
  • Provisionally licensed as an LPC-Associate, or LMFT-Associate.
  • Passed licensure examination to obtain LMSW, LMFT-Associate, or LPC-Associate.
  • Employment is contingent upon obtaining full/provisional licensure within 90 days of hire.

Experienced/Skills Preferred:

  • Fluent in Spanish. English Required.
  • Entry level acceptable with one year's experience.
  • Experience in case management, crisis intervention, or child welfare.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to relate well to children and families in crisis.
  • Comfortable with complexity, advocacy, and mediation.
  • Strong ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Good paperwork and organizational skills.
  • Ability to submit all documentation electronically and in the office timely.
  • Knowledge of social work practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with fellow staff and referral sources.
  • Ability to maintain a professional, confidential working environment.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations and work force.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which vary according to client needs.

Work Conditions:

  • Environment: Home-based office, Schools, Community/Virtual settings
  • Range of Schedule: Mon -Fri, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm (vary according to client schedule)
  • Travel: Some positions may require required to drive and require reliable personal transportation, valid Texas driver license and current auto insurance.
